Honda dealership, that way I know that Honda trained service techs are working on my car and whatever they do it won't void any warrantys I may still have on my car.

I kept getting ripped off everywhere I went. I found a decent guy. He's an excellent mechanic but expensive as hell. So, one day I decided that I was going to do all my car's repairs myself. I haven't been to the mechanic in about two years.
Cars have always been a hobby for me, but now it's even better cause I spend a lot of time on them, so I know our cars pretty well.
You can find a lot of info on the net if you're not sure about how to do something. If you're thinking about being a do it yourselfer, take your car to the shop when you have some time and talk to your mechanic while he's working, maybe you can pick up some things. If the guy won't let you see what he's doing, then maybe you should switch to another garage.

I always fix it myself if possible. I once fixed a collapsed rear wheel bearing in the middle of the Karoo (small desert in South Africa). Luckily I had tools, so I removed the whole hub and hitch-hiked with it to the nearest town (40 km's away). I found a small motor repair place in a barn - the owner helped me press the old bearings out of the drum, cut the bearing inner off the stub axle with an oxy-acetelyne torch and gave me an old bearing set he had lying around. Cost me R20.00 all together ! Then I hitched back to my car, put it all back together and was back on the road in a little over 3 hours.
If I'd been dependent on a garage, I'd have payed at least R500 just to get my car towed in ...

it depends on why it broke down. If it is a part that can easily be replaced, a personal mechanic can do it, but if it is something like a wiring problem that needs better diag. testing, a garage is your best bet.

If you are mechanicaly inclined then maybe! How serious is the problem? Most of the time it is better to bring it to a professional, unless it is minor. If you want it done right without question then YES it would be your best bet to bring it to a local garage or shop to assure your safety.

I've been lucky...my father is a Mechanic so I grew up having to fix my own stuff ( with him standing behind me of course!!) My current car is way too complicated even for him (US model 2004 VW Passat W8) so I bring this one to a VW service center here in Germany.

take it to a garage. I was able to fix a lot of things on my first car, but this one's engine is just too compact and I can't move around under the hood.
And a lot of my problems require computer modifications/calibration (exhaust system, engine temp. etc.)

If it is something EASY to fix I have hubby fix it.
Anything requiring computers I have our personal mechanic fix it.

Depends what is wrong with it. If the transmission fell out and you are unsure of what to do...let the pros handle it. If you got a flat tire...then change that yourself.
Again, depends on what is wrong with your car. Good luck in your choice.
