Good Morning Geniuses and how are we all today. It is time for the morning workout.

You are standing looking at George and Dick who are both standing on the same spot 8 metres from you.

George now walks 6 metres to his direct Left.

How far is George from you in Metres?

Please note this is solvable, and to get the 10 marks, you must show how you got the answer.

As this is relatively easy, I will give you till 1130 BST to solve it. Get Pumping

Like all my morning workouts, this is solvable, but does require you to think of the problem.

You are standing facing George and Dick 8 metres ahead of you. George now walks 6 metres to the Left, which would be 90 degrees from looking at you.

This gives us a right angled triangle (Dick is on the Right angle corner). The distance between George and you is the Hypotenuse of the triangle. Finding the third side in a right angled Triangle is Pythagoras, which most of you clicked on to, where
(George & You)² = (George & Dick)² + (Dick and You)²
H² = 6² + 8²
H² = 36 + 64
H² = 100
H = √100
H=10

George is 10 Metres from you.

Some did think it was still 8 metres, however in order to do that, George would need to walk at a slight angle in walking 6 metres away from Dick. Since he walked sharp left, this is why it is incorrect.

Kriss cheated by using a scale drawing (Unless he had paper that was 6m by 8m in size) instead of stimulating his Neural Network, but he did arrive at the right conclusion. Kriss is correct.

No Name, jrn, N Kellingley, a goot and agni did get the right answer as well. Feel good about yourself today.

Some did just give the answer and be done with it, no marks.

dnnyo did spot the 3-4-5 triangle that was at work here, so well done to him for spotting this.

Sugar & Spice was a very impressive answer as she actually showed full working, including Formula, so she gets the 10.

Geoge was 8m from u(call this distance Y).He walked 6m to his direct left(the distance from Y to his present position is Z),He is now a distance of "X" from you.This forms a triangle and according to pythagoras theorem
X^2=Y^2+Z^2
X^2=6^2+8^2
X^2=100
X=10

This is pretty straightforward I think, using Pythagoras, you have the length of two sides of a right angled triangle. And you need to calculate the hypoteneuse so:

8 ^ 2 + 6 ^ 2 = 100 and the square root of 100 is 10 so George is 10 metres away from me.

Using the Pythagorean Theorem:

6^2 + 8^2 = x^2

x^2 = 100

Square root of 100 is 10

Standing on the same spot may be a difficult for them unless one of them is a hologram.

Also, it depends on which way they are facing. If they are facing sideways to your left or right, then the answer is 8-6=2 or 8+6=14.

If they are facing towards or away from you, then this is a pythagoras problem. 6,8,10 is a pythagoras triple so the answer would be 10.

or long hand:
square root of 8^2+6^2 or sqrt(64+36) = 10

You are standing at point A. and G,D standing at a distance of 8 meters. Now G moves at a right angle to left for 6 meters making a right angle triangle ADG.Accordingly ..-
A Dsq+DGsq=AGsq
by calculation AG=10 meters

u, george & dick will form a right angle triangle with the 2 perpendicular sides being 8 & 6 meters.

sqrt(8^2 + 6^2) = 10m

if only i saw this question 22 minutes ago
instead of reading jokes,
i use the pythagorean theorem and the 3-4-5 triangle is so obvious it requires no calculation,
except 6 is twice 3,
8 is twice 4
so therefore, george is along the hypoteneuse of the right triangle at 10 metres away
(twice 5)

10 Metres I think.....but you'd like to know how I got the answer.....used a piece of paper and a ruler and worked it out from there.

I guess you can use Pythagoras Theorem but in the real world there's much easier ways of working this out

I'm not entirely sure it's right but I'm pretty certain and I'd be interested to see what the answer is if I'm wrong

Since I'm feeling a little lazy, I'll take the easy way out. Assuming that I'm already on Georges left, he's now 2 meters away.
