Well I don't think compatability has anything to do with star signs, but if it helps I'm a libra girl and my boyfriend of 3 years is cancerean. We've only ever had 1 or 2 cross words, yet they were forgotten about in hours. We get on like a house on fire and we're even planning the rest of our lives together.

If you're talking about General Astrology, the answer would technically be no.
Cancer is Cardinal Water
Libra is Cardinal Air
Cardinal means Leadership.
On the 12-Slice Zodiac Pie Chart, any Sign that is 90 degrees of the Sign is bad and 180 degrees is the worst.
However, we're talking about General Terms. When you start getting into more specifics with the Moon Sign, Ascendant, Mars, and Venus, that can make some people compatible.
How much you want to put stock into Astrology is up to you. It can serve as a general guideline like any form of Divination, but I wouldn't place all your stock in it. That's why it's good to use different ways of measuring a person's worth and then take the average.

If you're really into Astrology, you could buy "Love Signs" by Linda Goodman. It lists out all 144 Astrological Combinations of both Genders for all the Signs matched up with other Signs. It's was going for about $18.00 back in 1995.
The other book that's decent is "The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need.".

Take it from a Cancer girl who has been there. No! Libra men are nice but they have very extravagant tastes and will end up in debt over maintaining their lifestyle. Cancer women like saving up for a future and a Libra man will deplete that nest egg. "Bail me out PLEASE!!!"
When they are bailed out: "Wish you had brand name clothes and a nicer car. Use your savings"... Forget it!!!
