I grew up in a semi-small town where I never knew what racism was, all throughout school I thought it was a thing of the past. We had a white majority at my high school, but it didn't seem like the black, hispanic or asian kids were ever singled out in a negative way. It actually seemed like they sometimes were the more popular ones! I never heard any real racism until I was in college, and noticed it was around that time that a few of my old friends started picking up the idea that certain races were superior. My husband and I moved to a town for a while that was full of gangs and got mugged one night. That was the first time that I ever heard him say anything romotely racist. I wish things were the way they were when I was growing up, sometimes its hard to see the world as it really is. Sure, there are more black people in gangs, more white people who have too much power. Really though, it is the type of person that we don't like. Not the color. All races are capable of doing the same horrible thing to another person. I do think that our country is making progress in bringing all races together considering what changes have been made in the general publics opinion in the past 40 years. It will never be perfect though for there will always be ignorant people in this world.

You are absolutely correct. The only thing you forgot, all Americans right not hate Arabs. Okay, most Americans don't hate them, but if you stand up on a plane and you're Arab, you'll get a LOT more looks than if you were Asian or Hispanic. Sadly, I've been one of the "lookers".
I have no doubt that if we all united, we would be a much more powerful nation, and we would not have as much to fear. Unfortunately, that would require parents to not make ANY derogatory remarks against other races, requiring all children to have at least ONE friend of every major race, and REMOVE all information about slavery from our school textbooks.
This isn't likely to happen, and it's sad that completely wiping all history of discrimination of race. We should study it and LEARN from it, NOT assume that just because that's how it WAS, that's how we should treat each other now.
I look forward to a united America, but that would require everyone to change, and that will truly be impossible.

I guess it depends on where you live. I know it exists in the south, where i live. It may not be bad everywhere. Not that I agree with this or anything, but I think all the races here are joining forces against the illegal immigrants.

It's not as bad as the Media portrays it, but there are still issues. I believe racism is going away, due to integration, generation-ally.

Race is still a problem. I wouldn't say it's nearly as bad as it was, but it's still prevalent enough to notice.
