Did anyone feel sorry for Tom? He took one heck of a beating in every episode.

Not really. it's just a toon. Have you ever watched REAL cat catch a mouse? I don't feel sorry for the filthy, disgusting, disease-carrying, book-chewing, capet-ruining rodent at all.

yeh... imagine how Scratchy feels in 'The Itchy and Scratchy Show' in The Simpsons. The Itchy & Scratchy Show depicts a mouse, Itchy, and a cat, Scratchy, the former of whom mutilates the latter with deadly weapons. The Itchy and Scratchy show is a parody of shows like Tom and Jerry, that actually have a lot of violence depicted between otherwise cute cartoon animals. It points out that these shows actually do not send a very good message, being that they are targeted at a young audience. And, like all "toons", the characters emerge unharmed in the long run.

Nope not for a second. I did feel sorry for Wylie Coyote. I think the difference was that Tom was a bit sadistic, where as Wylie was really nice (well other than wanting to eat Roadrunner that is). I have to say, I always wondered what would have happened if ACME had a take away (for food that is) service along with their rocket rollerskate devilery policy lol

I did feel a little sorry for Tom because he always gets out-smarted and out-witted by Jerry each and every time.

I thought Tom got a little more than he deserved, but since he was usually instigating the problems I didn't feel too bad for him. Besides, the characters in cartoons always get a fresh start in the next episode, so I knew he wouldn't suffer too long.

If you noticed, Tom was the one was being tortured by Jerry. Jerry was always the one irritating him and tricking him into sticky situations. So yes, Tom deserves all the symphathy in the world!

Poor Tom. Jerry really owned him in every episode. I am still waiting for him to catch and eat that darn mouse.

I was up for Jerry...
He was the smaller one, and the one in constant danger
So what if Tom was a bit slow?
Jerry could get away
