He is the best spot-kick taker. But his lack of pace and other attributes have brought him down from being an all-round player. You can't field someone for 90 minutes just to take free-kicks. The team did alright without him, Lenon did a fantastic job.

It does seem a bit wrong to not have him, but i think thats to do with image rather than results on the pitch.

After last night's friendly against Greece, i felt that Beckham should have been picked. His replacement Aaron Lennon might have pace and trickery, something which Beckham lacked, but Lennon's delivery isn't the best. He didn't deliver any crosses through out the whole match. Beckham just need to have some discipline and stick to his position on the right instead of drifting in to the middle and cause lots of confusion in the england team. If he's able to send top class crosses in, i don't see why Peter Crouch can overtake Michael Owen in the England scoring charts. Beckham's ability to deliver from set-pieces were also missed during yesterday's friendly and that's something Steve Mclaren might take a while to figure out. So i say, before Aaron Lennon learns how to cross, Beckham should still play for England.

No, I don't.England manager Steve McClaren has not ruled out recalling former captain David Beckham in the future.(hooray)
The new boss said he wanted to go in a "different direction".
But McClaren told BBC Five Live: "It's not the England manager's decision to end anyone's international career.
"While David says he has the passion to play for England, I have to respect that and I will monitor the situation in Madrid. I will never say never."
Beckham stepped down as captain after England's World Cup quarter-final defeat in July but expressed his desire to continue playing.
However, McClaren caused a huge surprise with his first squad selection as England boss by dropping the Real Madrid midfielder for Wednesday's friendly against Greece.
"I would not say it was hardest decision I've made," McClaren added.
"It would have been hard if I didn't have the relationship I've got with him and if I didn't have the respect I have for him.
"It was a big decision but one I felt I had to make for the future."
McClaren has chosen John Terry to succeed Beckham as captain but predicted that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could lead his country in the future.
David Beckham is one of England's true ambassadors for the game of football. Renowned for his spectacular goals and his celebrity lifestyle, he is an idol and hero to many.

Their goal is Euro 2008 and WC 2010, and Becks is 30 years old now. It is a good time for a "new" manager to try some new players. What better time than than the Greece game?

But, I think Becks still deserve to be in the England squad, he is four more caps left from a century. He deserve his century, and his set pieces and crosses will be sorely missed, particularly by Crouchie.

Yes. Beckham did a great job for England: his passing and free kicks were magnificent. However, it is time to rebuild and Lennon has the speed which Beckham now lacks.

YES!
It's is about time someone came it and decided a player should be in the squad for his skills rather than his popularity!
We had the same thing with Gazza years ago. Past his prime but was a big name so was in the squad.
The team needs players, NOT TV stars.
Becks is a great footballer but now it' time to appoint someone that's better.

Yes.
Steve McClaren managed to do what Erikkson failed to do for a long time. There are many good young players like Aaron Lennon who play Beck's position and have alot more to offer. The recent England showing is proof of that.

But I kinda feel sorry for him. No longer being skipper and seemingly out of the manager's plans for the near future, especially after figuring prominently for so long. It's hard to take. He probably didn't see that coming.
Maybe he should just have announced his international retirement and bowed out gracefully earlier.

Yes. He failed as a captain of the country, Terry is far better. He offers very little as a player at International level. I think last night proved that players like Lennon provide the team with better attacking options and have a greater contribution. He can take free kicks and thats about it

I don't think he should've been dropped. This NEEDS to be the final word on the subject: David. Beckham. Is. Better. Than. Jermain(e). Jenas.
