I had a few different techniques for vocabulary words... I had weird learning styles, so I'll reccomend a few for different learning styles:
1. Flash cards: Definitions on the back, words on the front. Review, review, review. Turn them the other way and do them in reverse, then back the other way, until you can get them all the way through both ways.
2. Type/Write out the words and their definitions: This will help you remember them... Organize it into columns, with half the paper for the words down one list, and the definitions on the opposite side. Then fold the piece of paper in half, and then try to remember the definition from the word on the list, and the other way around. It's a different format, but very similar to the other style.
3. Recite them out loud: Read the word, then read the definition, and keep doing that until you have them in your head. This is especially good for auditory learners.
4. Draw/Look Up/Make Up associational pictures: Even abstract things can have some kind of corresponding pictures. Use Google's image search, pick out pictures, and learn to associate them with a word and definition. You can cut pictures out of magazines too, though this might be a bit harder to find the proper matches. If you're a visual learner, this will trigger your brain.

take it in small amounts - focus on 10 words at a time - learn those - move onto the next 10 - learn those - then go back and test yourself on all 20 - then continue

Try putting them in alphabetical order. See if that helps.
