Cos they need a good 'ol defrosting. You really should cover up if you're in the cold.

I actually had the same problem. I'm only 16 weeks now but my nipples were like that when I was about 5-8 weeks pregnant. God it hurt!
I used to put hot water in a plastic bottle (like an evian bottle) and put it on my boobs. The wet towel idea is ok too but I didn't want my nipples to become chapped from the direct contact with water. I know it seems weird but if they're are chapping why don't you put some Carmex or Chap-stix on them??
Good luck!

Same here! I am 34 weeks and at times mine hurt so bad I want to cry! It is due to the fact that they are filling up with milk cause you are getting close to the time to have your child. I know that it is no good news but it is true they are only going to get worst the futher alone you get. Some advice when they start hurting really bad get a rag and wet it with hot water and lay it on your breast this help ease the pain and make it more bearable. Well good luck and Congrats on the little one on the way!

You're 27 weeks pregnant - Our bodies are miraculous, it's your body trying to get you used to painful nips, breasts etc because in nature you would be ideally breastfeeding - it's just a way to get you used to what is going to come. Like in month 7.5 on up you'll have to get up every 2.5 hours (or so) to go to the bathroom. Time it, and damned if that isn't exactly when your baby wants to be fed after she/he is born!

During pregnancy, your breasts are more tender and sensitive and this includes the nipples. It's a result of hormones.

Your body is very sensitive when you are pregnant. There are some lotion you can rub so they won't chap.
