Unfortunately, our freedom movement lost track of its ideals. Freedom has no meaning, if it does not result in the betterment of the living standards of the common man. Remember the sage words of advice given by Mahatma to a minister in the independent India: Think of the poor; the touch stone of all our actions should be whether the proposed action will benefit the poor man in the street. That mantra has long since been thrown to wind.
What is the remedy? The fact that there are several persons like you who are concerned about the common man, at the time of celebrating the Independence, is heartening. People should not stop asking questions. A movement for cleansing the political system, as vigorous and popular as the freedom struggle itself is long overdue. Young men should be conscious of the society we live in and develop a concern for the lowliest of the lowly. They must remain united in their struggle for eradication of corruption and unethical standards in our political life.

60 years is a short period , as long as there is progress there is no need for concern. I have seen affluent villages as well and am sure the others will replicate them too.
