go to the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance. There's a dress shop right next to the food court the has wonderful gowns. That's were I bought my prom dress! If you're looking to go cheaper downtown L.A has the biggest variety of dress shops! Im sure you will find one there.

This is gonna sound weird, but have you checked out JCPenney Stores? Their buyers deserve an award for the beautiful gowns I saw in stock just last week. Check it out, you just might like one of the 100's in stock!

Depends on your price range. If you go to the Beverly Center mall in beverly hills, there's a bloomingdale's there that stocks designer dresses, but the prices can run a bit high.

ames has nice dresses that aren't too outragious, they are in the malls, I think that might be the store in the torrance mall a previous poster mentioned, look online for the closest one to your house. they do have sassy long dresses though, good luck

I like Carraz. But you can check Jessica McClintock. They have really sassy stuff at their store. They have a cute selection online too.

Value Village or Goodwill.

Seriously, there's tons of used dresses like that (hell, people only wear them ONCE, some are old enough to be unique). If you MUST spend a bunch of money, take it to a professional taylor to have it fitted and altered. If asked, tell them it was your great-grandmother's, who wore it to meet Queen Victoria, and was complimented. ...or something.
