A good speed is anything above 3.0 but u can't get the full speed from your CPU unless u get some good RAM and u shouldn't go anything less then 1GB it will make things run A LOT better. Nope dual core doesn't mean x2 the speed it just means u can run more stuff at once like a game, internet, music and burn all at the same time so it's better if u want to do a whole bunch of stuff at once. So...
• dual core for doing more.
• single to go faster.

Well you ask about dual core it means that you have two Central Processing Units in one Package it does not mean that you have twice the speed exactly but it comes pretty close to it.The best thing about it is that you can do more things at once without having to wait long.Certain functions are enhaced but no wonders are created yet.
I've read a few Computer Magazin's about duo chips I'm impressed but not overvelmed.Ideal for a Laptop speeds between 3 and 6 Mhz (where the upper 5 to ^6 are a bit finicy)
Don't want to mention Brandnames only Intel is not in the lead on this.
Take care!

Dual core is the best product from Intel. Its 2 times faster than ordinary CPU and if you want to have 4 times faster CPU then buy Dual Core with HT technology.

Dual core, means you have 2 processing chips and single well you catch the drift, Lap tops are still slightly laggin behind in speed, but if you get anthying above 1.80 gig and above you got a hell of a Laptop and should handle most programs...You want the Ultimate gaming Laptop, Try the Area 51 Made by Alienware/Dell, that is one kick as* system...
