Yahoo - more than likely a server glitch, but the best thing you can do is log in on your computer (if someone's in there it'll kick THEM off) and as quickly as you can - change your password.

Microsoft - Case and point in not getting the updates through the website (and having to use their "Genuine Advantage" aka flawed sporadic system that accuses 20% of the people that are legit of being nasty).

Turn on automatic updates BUT make sure to have it only see what's needed and then ASK you what you want to install. Make sure you read through the descriptions for each one...

The nasty removers that Microsoft foists on people are usually inferior to their standalone versions

Download a few anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, oh and a firewall.
( Avg antivirus - http://free.grisoft.com/ , Adaware anti-adware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ , Spywareblaster antispyware - http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html , Zonealarm firewall - http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp )

It's almost guaranteed you got some nasties through either just using Internet Explorer, or downloading stuff you shouldn't.

Internet Explorer is big, slow, insecure (you're almost guaranteed to have some viruses and spyware right now), very out of date, and not customizable.

Drop Internet Explorer from use and get Firefox - sleek, fast, safe, easy to use, up to date, extremely customizable... and it has a cool icon.
( Firefox web browser - http://getfirefox.com/ )

Firefox has pop-up blocking built in, and with just one add-on you'll rarely see another banner ad!
(Firefox adblocking add-on - http://adblockplus.org/ )

Install the programs and scan your computer. You might want to stay offline for this - you're not protected until AFTER you do it.

After that - password protect your computer account. If you use a wireless connection see if you can get it secured (passwords and encryption)

Make sure to update your virus and spyware scanners once a week, and check for updates to your firewall... and operating system.

You can contact Microsoft with that and tell them that you own the license to that version of WIndows. The Signed out thing may be from someone knowing your password.

i cant figure out the question;
where are you signng in? to the computer or the microsoft
if in computer windows, and your computer is on a network?
maybe your account has been using by others. try changing your password. if your signing in to microsoft, and you get that message, somebody has used your windowsXP installer and register it to the microsoft. If you have the genuine installer contact microsoft and tell them you it.

Do you have multiple computers?
It may be possible that you set it to automatically sign you in on one of them whenever it turns on.
It may also be the result of someone knowing your password so try changing it.
