Do you hate people who are born with hormone imbalances or are born with anomalous sex chromosomes, or people who are hermaphroditic? Do you hate all people who are medically intersexual? Do you hate them when they do not fit the category of male or female gender? Will you refuse to allow them to live their lives in peace? Or is your God sorry that He made people who were different from "male and female He created them"?

Having said that, not all "gays" and everyone in between are born that way, many are abused psychologically, or have emotional problems, or have been influenced by peer pressure or drugs, and not all gays live happy lives... many are depressed, addicted to lewd behavior, and are suicidal.

I think that children should be raised in homes with a husband and wife, so they have strong male and female role models. I am against gay adoption, but otherwise fully support equality for everyone, regardless of sexuality or orientation. Is that a compromise you can live with?

I wish the damn thing would have given me more than 1000 characters to work with.

I support equality and normalization of gays, bisexuals, and medically intersexed people. Gay marriage should be allowed on a federal level.

The only thing that I ask is that children be left out of it, because they are children; they pick up on their parent's behavior. They pick up on violence on TV, bad language, sex and pornography, and will do anything to fit in because they cannot discern right from wrong.

I just ask that kids be raised in traditional households, so that they have both strong male and female role models. This is the whole reason why single people cannot adopt to begin with. So I am not even singling out the "alternative sex" community here.

Is this a reasonable compromise or not? Doesn't everyone get almost everything that they want?

Am I a bigot for wanting children to be raised by a mother and a father? Am I being too liberal for supporting gay marriage? Which is it?

amazing the range of responses I got.

I went from being a bigot to being too liberal, as I expected.

I was also called a hypocrite.

I believe those with negative comments were not being open minded enough to see where I was comming from.

It's a shame we can't have this discussion like adults.

I understand your point about gay adoption, but first, I am glad you believe in equal rights for everyone. However, I think only time will tell whether or not children adopted by gay couples will have problems down the road. I come from MA, which is a very liberal state obviously-I see gay couples with children a lot. I am a bit conflicted when it comes to this. I don't believe being gay is a choice, therefore I don't think they should be unable to have children if they desire to. My main concern is not the home situation, but what people outside of the home say to the child-you have 2 moms, 2 dads, that's weird, etc. I know it may not be considered the typical traditional family, but that doesn't mean 2 gay parents can't love and care for their children just like a straight couple can. The important thing is to have a role model in the child's life...for example if 2 women adopt a boy, perhaps an uncle or other family member steps in when necessary to talk to the child about "guy things" and vice versa if it is 2 men with a daughter. I think years from now, this won't even be an issue. If gays can legally marry, and in MA they can, why can't they have children? They will still have 2 strong role models...think of all the single mothers raising children alone because the father took off. Nobody talks about them not being suitable parents. I suppose I would be able to agree with your compromise if I didn't believe that people were born gay, but I do, and I don't think they should be punished for something beyond their control.

Since straight couples have gay children I think it is unfair to say a gay person would corrupt a child.
That being said I am opposed to gay marriage.
Marriage is between a man and a woman. They are asking for special rights not equal rights and I do have a problem with that.
Why should they be entitled to the same benefits as a married couple because they love each other?
Not everyone is entitled to the same benefits as any other person.
There has to be a line somewhere and this is one that should not be crossed. Why can't they be happy witht he civil unions being allowed? Here, they come with all the same bebefits as marriage without being called a marriage.(which was a union between 1 man/1woman for procreation)

I like how your question is actually built around a personal statement and opinion.

Yes, you are a bigot for wanting children to be raised by a mother and father. Gays are perfectly capable of raising children (be it a dad and a dad or mom and a mom). Children are not gay because their parents are. I find your statements almost hypocritical. On one end you support gays and gay rights but on the other you chide their being able to raise children.

I know gay people who are raising children and they (the kids) are grounded, kind and "normal" (by societal standards).

As long as there is A loving parent, children will grow up as normal as possible. Single moms/dads as well as gay parents should have the right and priviledge to raise children without prejudice.

A lot of gay children had mother and father figures growing up, yet it doesn't affect the reality that they are gay.

Gay adoption is fine.
People don't choose to be gay, they just are.
If a gay couple adopts a child, the child will not grow of being attracted to same gender just because parents are. Kids are not simple-minded. They have complex minds.

I say it is alright to grow up with gay parents, as long as they are loving and caring, and provide the necessary means in growing up healthy.

I do not hate many people even if I do not agree with what they are doing. My God does not hate them either. I doubt God regrets any of His creations. However, He is often saddened by what we do and how we respond to temptations. Why do people think Christians "hate" people who are involved in gay lifestyles? I can disagree with something people do without hating them. By that logic, we would also have to hate all gossipers, and that would include a lot of people. The list would go on and on and include every person on Earth. We are we not allowed to disagree without it being called "hate"?

You right about the kids to be left out of it . but give gays people legal federal standard is the same like you're saying to a kid it's not right to couple of the same sex to raise a kid but it's normal for people for the same sex to get married . Why don't you just tell him if he/she can't found a partner who is an opposite sex , it's alright to get one with same sex.
