I would first like to start out by saying I do not claim to be liberal or conservative. I just noticed everyone in here seems to be so concerned about everyone else’s political party. Now, I know this room is called politics but...why can't we just share our views and not get into arguments over ridiculous things ALL the time? Is it that big of a deal if someone doesn't agree with you? It seems to me conservatives have crap on the liberal party. And the liberals have just the same amount of crap on the conservatives. It might be lies it might be the truth…does anyone really know 100%? Don't you notice that if we don't all come to a common agreement to agree to disagree we won't get anywhere? It just seems to go round and round. I'm not trying to start an argument...but isn't that what America is supposed to be about freedom, especially freedom of speech? Is it that enjoyable to bicker back and forth? What is arguing doing for anyone? It isn’t stopping the war. It isn’t making anyone believe in the war. It isn’t making anyone love Bush or Clinton. Do we argue just for the sake of it? If you do believe it is getting us somewhere by arguing…why do you believe that?

I meant freedom of speech without the worry of being disrespected for it...

Actually growing up my dad was in the military. Because of his commetment he wasn't to speak poorly about the government or president. I finally realized the reason why isn't nessicary because he couldn't but because there was nothing he could do to change the government once the votes were in. The only thing he could do was vote for his canidates. I have argued points with friends and family before and found it is pointless...if we could only come together instead of fall apart, we might be able to sort out the mess we're in right now.

Believe it or not a big part of my parents divorce was over this. They each had very strong beliefs for opposite parties. My mothers side of the family makes political arguments the center of all our family get-togethers. They all say they aren't arguing, that it's fun to talk about. In my book, if you are yelling til you're blue in the face it's not friendly anymore. I think people's biggest problem when they claim to be liberal or conservative is that they take on that role rather than deciding what they really believe in based on information gathered by each party. I believe in trying our best to understand why someone believes what they do, but you should still stand for something. As for those people who are out there trying to convince everyone, if we didn't have people like that there would never be change in this world. If we didn't have preachers of religion, they would die out as soon as they begin. Although dissagreements begin war, it's only by debating the agreement that war is brought to an end. Some people just need to learn a better way to debate their subject. I'm wondering if you have had similar experiences as I had when I was growing up. For a while I refused to play any part in voting or politics at all until I opened my eyes and found that I don't have to be that way or participate in that sort of behavior.

Debate, even heated debates can bring out the deepest and real thoughts of a person that might not otherwise air them. Unfortunately most of the noise today aired by the Media is the extreme wings of the parties. I call myself an Independent Conservative. I split my vote last election. I believe in an individuals rights, but not at the expense of the publics safety, I think the government needs to do more in regards to education, and health care, but I also back the war on terror and the war in Iraq. Compromise would be nice, unfortunately too many people just spout the party lines of the extreme liberals and far right. Honesty has taken a back seat to party loyalty

I'm thinking these comments would go well in the philosophy category, too. All the arguing keeps us in a rut - can't move forward. Everyone wants to have the last word. I would probably be considered by most to be a liberal, but I have no problem with discussions, if that's what they are. Instead, everyone with an opinion is the expert and it's their way or no way. See? Even when I say that, I'm opinionated. Ha! Ha! But I totally agree with you that we are making a mess, and letting the world see our dirty laundry isn't very smart.

Hey, freedom of speech, could that translate to freedom of opinion? Too bad there isn't more freedom of discussion without the bashing.

"Argue with a fool, and a passerby will not know which is the fool." Just don't worry about it so much. The religion section is just as bad. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before music or movies or something else explodes. When people feel the need to express their opinions and those opinions are based blindly upon the shoulders of a single experience--or worse, on the opinions of parents--then they often criticize without thought or any desire to listen to anyone with an opposing opinion. The only solution to this is to hope this person can actually think and place them on the television program "30 Days."

Okay, Me Sorry. Anybody wanna trade licks?
I think if I give my two cents, Jack gives his two cents, and Jane gives her two cents and so on, eventually we'll get a dollar between all of us. Then we can all get a round of drinks and have a good laugh. My point is, we are brain-storming our ideas now, and in the future (if we don't blow up the planet first), we will achieve Nirvana. If we can leave our guns holstered, I think we can have a healthy discussion. It's better to learn to let off our steam this way, then maybe we won't annihilate each other when we are face to face.
I do wish people would tone down the capital letters more, they really smart.

Did you know that the rights guaranteed to us in the bill of rights only protect those rights with the government. For example, you can search your neighbors house and find all sorts of illegal stuff. Your boss can search your desk. But if the government wanted to do any of that they would need a warrant.

My god, I have read some hypocritical statements on this site, but you my love must qualify as the biggest hypocrite I have read so far.

You bang on about free speech here - elsewhere on this site you have reported someone for asking a question! Do you see the utter hypocrisy in your position here at all?

What a nauseating individual you are. "Oh why can't we all get along?" whimpers Lindsey Lovato...you are beneath contempt.

I agree. Not all interaction is this way. We have a wide variety of political beliefs and yes we are going to disagree. I like to hear others opinions even if (and sometimes especially) they differ from my own. Sometimes a bit of a challenge is intriguing i guess......Peace to you

Being argumentative is what makes both parties meet in the middle. With out it, it wouldn't inspire thought.

And yes, they do enjoy it.
