If the IAU votes to accept the proposed definition of 'planet', there will immediately be 12 planets in the solar system, instead of the current 9. The 'new' planets are Ceres (now consdered to be the largest asteroid), Charon, the largest moon of Pluto, and the newly discovered object now officially called 2003UB313 and unofficially called Xena.

Ceres, which orbits between Mars and Jupiter, was considered to be a planet for about 50 years after its discovery in 1801, then it was demoted to asteroid status.

There are undoubtedly many more objects the size of Pluto or larger, yet to be discovered, which under the proposed new definition will be classed as planets as they are discovered.

Of course, all of these objects have been around for billions of years, so any effects they may have, astronomical or astrological, have been at work whether we have taken them into account or not.

I've read that the three new planets will be.....
1) Xena (newly found)
2) Charon (YES!!! Pluto's natural satellite)
3) Ceres (The supposed to be largest asteroid in our solar system which lies between Jupiter & Mars)

These will all be termed as planets according to the new definition of 'what a planet is' which will be released on 25th august 2006.

And yes, Pluto stays in too.

The Astronomical union discovered them......

& their (or any of the planets) affecting our stars is sheer superstition (BULLSHIT!!!!!)

the 3 new planets discovered are-
1. Xena, officially called 2003 UB313.
2. Sedna.
3. 2003 EL61.

for all these 3 planets the common discoverer was MICHAEL BROWN. rest were his colleagues who differed from planet to planet discovery.

Brown named Xena as such after a warrior princess famous in a TV show! it is slightly bigger than Pluto. it was discovered in 2003, hence the name 2003 UB61.
2003 EL61 is the most oval of all.

ALL these planets lie in the KUIPER BELT, which is a zone beyond Neptune's orbit.

what do you mean by "can they affect our stars"?
hey, they are discovered, not invented. they have been in existence even before we discovered them. so the stars you are talking about will remain to be the same! mate, wake up. these planets aren't new. they have been in existence for millenia. how can they now affect the stars? just because we discovered them?! oh, uh, xyz.

HOPE I ANSWERED TO THE POINT.

Xena (also called as 2003 UB 213)
Sedna
Ceres (It is a huge asteroid as big as 100 miles diameter)

And hey, these planets were ther from the beginning of time...or maybe they just got attracted to the sun's powerful gravity. But Charon... which is Pluto's moon and another planet(sorry I don't know it's name) in the Kuiper Belt is also involved in the argument. But whatever it is the definition of a planet is that it should be circular, more than 400 kharabs (you what are kharabs right? It's a measurement in the Indian Numerical System) and also it should not be a star itself and it should have a strong gravitational field.

lol

The names of the new planets found in our solar system are Xena or 2003 UB313 , 2003EL61 and Sedna . Xena was discovered by M. E. Brown, C.A.Trujillo and D.L. Rabinowitz on October 21 2003. 2003 EL61 was discovered by Mike Brown on 24 December 2004.Sedna was discoverd by M. Brown,C. Trujillo,
and Rabionowitz. I don't think they can affect our stars.

Even the ones discovered recently have been around for a long time. They are not affecting the sun, and any affect they have on the orbits of other planets has already been happening for billions of years.

This is all very interesting and wonderfull, but it really does not change a thing. "What will be, will be" Man can only surmise and wonder. Spiritually! your guess is as good as mine. It makes good reading tho! I am not going to get excited about this as some kind of omen. "Limited in his understanding and experience by his five physical senses, man compared to God is little better than an insect. His world exists for only a small distance in any direction, and yet he considers his opinion enlightened in all directions." God has given us some clues as to what to expect in the latter days. Do what He advices us to do and don't worry. It is all in His hands anyway!

Right now, the names of the most recent newfound objects are named after gods/goddesses of creation...the most recent named objects are Varuna, Quaoar, and Sedna.
