I think Battier made the cut because he could also provide consistant offense as well as very good D. In the 5 exhibition games, Bowen didn't even score until the last game against S. Korea. Battier is someone team USA can get good, consistant production from on both ends of the floor, whereas Bowen performance in the exhibition games was only so-so.
I feel bad for all the players who were cut, because all those guys wanted a chance to represent their country on a world stage, but I don't feel especially bad for Bowen. The team had to go with the guys who were working best in the system they're using, and that didn't include Bowen.

First off Bowen didn't perform well at all. He only scored 4 points in 4 games, averaged .286 from the field, .000 from outside, grabbed 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 0 steals. Plus he's 35 years old. Battier scored 15 points in 5 games, shot .462 from the field, .400 from outside, grabbed a team second best 17 rebounds, got 8 steals and dished out one assist. It wasn't even a close call between the two of them. Even though Bowen is a great defender, his game just isn't well rounded enough to have made the team. Besides that, Team USA has good perimeter defenders already in Kirk Hinrich and Joe Johnson. Battier is no slouch on defense either. Plus, Battier can easily play at the 3 or 4 position and could even play some 2 if he was asked to. He has good range, great passing skills for his position, is a good rebounder and has decent post skills. He's just a more versatile player and a more logical choice. He gives the team more options than just as a defensive tool like Bowen is.

they guy above me cracked me up. bowen and battier are on the team for their defensive presence. bowen is usually put on the best player from the team. battier himself is also a good defender. battier is a good defender and thats what the team needs. and plus he probably wasnt a first option, some people probably turned down. when arenas comes back and kobe comes and chauncey, he will be cut anyways.

Bruce Bowen is a complicated nostril, old college defender, no longer grimy. He performs protection like the undesirable Boys of Detroit, while the interest allowed it. I even have reported earlier that Bruce gets called grimy while he has a participant's quantity and that they exchange into annoyed on the actuality that they are able to't beat him. he's paid to look after the terrific gamers interior the league and he does his interest nicely. this finished verbal exchange began via fact Amare Stoduemire is youthful and hasn't found out which you in basic terms keep your mouth close. If he replaced into attempting to get the officers to bend to their part it did no longer artwork and it won't artwork. i think of the Suns followers are somewhat bitter and that i assume i may be additionally if my team have been down interior the series. they have amnesia while their men do some thing incorrect or get called for complicated fouls. those are a similar followers that stated that tony Parker purposely hit heads with Steve Nash, supply me a wreck. additionally they forget approximately that Barbosa took out Tony Parker in interest 2 (i do no longer think of it replaced into on purpose, yet TP would are transforming into injury). additionally they have forgotten that they have a grimy participant of their very own Raja Bell. The Spurs could concern approximately retaliation in interest 4. pass Spurs pass! would the single eyed bandit choose for 40! Suns followers heavily should not be speaking with reference to the Spurs whining. D'antoni spends the entire interest foyer the refs and Stoduemire has greater techs than the entire Spurs team this season. while they lose they permit the media do the grimy artwork. You all could study the headlines in Arizona, they think of the series is sturdy and that they Suns have some adjustments to make. supply up crying and characteristic exciting watching! you weren't crying after interest 2, so do no longer cry now.

Battier and Bowen both suck and should've never been here. But Bowen provided veteran leadership and defensive maturity, so I really think it was a stupid decision by Coach K to keep that idiot Battier
