Not fake sites that show their dollar amount after registering. I have few softwares to download, but not happy with their performance and versatility.

www.soundclick.com

When you use yahoo.com to search for songs, after clicking on Audio, you can set soundclick to be your favorite then you always get those results first. All you need to do is sign up, absolutely free. And Legal!. However, you might not get that many famous rock songs, but will get all the little band songs, which are often better. Good luck

Go to your favorite band's website and the record label's website and see if they offer free downloads, a lot of them do, at least the independents do. You won't get more than a couple songs from each album, but it's free, legal, and high bitrate downloads. (They want to give you a couple free songs in hopes that you'll go buy the album and go to the show.)

Try Shareaza You will when searching get a few "so called versions" but keep tryin til you hit one which doesnt ask for any money an tells you its completely free. I d/l oldies Karaoke (CD+G) and modern and also loads of software AND theres no "spyware" on it Nearly all the others shown on your answers I have tried Imesh full of Spyware Morpheous (spelt that wrong!) has lot of virus givers them two especially I would steer clear of!!!

http://blogmusik.net/

this is a little hacky, but it's totally free with no sign-up and works within a minute of going to their site.

the way it works is you open it in internet explorer. type in the name of a song or group and click on a song to download. Once it's fully downloaded, go to C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files and you will see the MP3 file or the RBS file. If it's MP3 then there you go. Copy it into your My Music folder or wherever and it's yours.

If it's RBS, then open it with Audacity or some such, and export it as an MP3 and there you go. Any questions, e-mail me at jjorey1@yahoo.com

Soulseek is the best program to download music. Everything you ever wanted at one place. It is not legal to download copywrited music though, so I have to say don't do it. The people who do download copywrited music face lawsuits, unless they use security programs on their computer. Most of them use a program called Peer Guardian, which blocks the Record Labels from connecting to them. They also use good firewalls. Don't rely on the firewall that comes with Windows.

Limewire WONT harm your PC as it tells you when a file is corrupt (the author has laced a virus into it) and you can choose weather to continue download or not. Its ok for single songs/movies/data, but if you want whole albums and far better search results get SLSK (soulseek).

Bearshare.com you can find pretty much anything i've got loads of rock tunes off it. You can download it free but you get adverts with it or you can pay 11 pounds and get no adverts well worth it, you can even get movies and books aswell.
