If this is true please explain why you would be reluctant.

I was intrigued by the answers at "Can human milk be produced commercially?"

If I were unable to nurse my baby personally, I would prefer to give my baby another woman's milk over a cow's because breast milk is more nutritious than milk or formula.

A well known wet nurse could have some problems, but commercialized human milk could be an absolute disaster. Mom's breast feeding, breast pump or formula are much better in that order. Perhaps as important is the physical contact with the baby while feeding. Cow's milk passes rigid health standards and is safe if there is no lactose intolerance. Again the bottle is best given with close comforting human contact, propping a child in a device with a bottle loses a great deal in a baby's developmental potential.

First, I would never give my baby milk from a cow. Formula is much better. If human breast milk is ever produced, I'm sure it will cost a TON! I probably wouldn't be able to afford it. I would only give it to my child if my doctor said it was necessary for my child's health. There just seems to be many confounding factors to this issue. (are the donating women healthy, are they taking ay medication, is the milk pasturized, is the milk safe? etc etc.etc)

well, is it bad 4 the baby? i would use formula and not breast milk. the other lady could be on drugs or have HIV or something. once the baby is ready 4 cow milk, i'll give him/her that. and no, human milk should NOT be produced commercially. 4 starters, u don't know the person, and like i said B4, the women can have a communicable disease and not amit it, or she may not even know about it.

I think i would be reluctant just because cow milk is processed and i guess we feel safer with it. With another woman, anything she eats will directly affect the baby, so there is a little more concern there. Awseome question thou, really made my brain spin!!!

That's a great question! I would not want another woman feeding my child with their milk, but I am a little jaded from the movie "A Hand That Rocks The Cradle"

personallly I wouldnt let my baby be feed other peoples
milk. My milk is best and cows milk has lots of stuff in it
and I dont drink milk but that didnt hurt me. I amlactose introlerant
and I didnt know that until recently.I feed my baby until she
was over two years old and not a bottle, she is more healthier
than other kids who have not been feed by the breast. If you
have bad teeth you shouldnt feed them breast milk until you
get your teeth fixed because they will get sick.and not gain
the pounds.

eeeww...It just sounds wrong. Humans are different than animals. The baby knows who its Mother is, if the baby is getting milk from another women I think it would make a lot of confusion for a little infant.

It is not done. It was done at the turn of the century when keeping babies alive was a primary concern. They had a high mortality rate. They were called "wet nurses." It worked.

Now there...betcha thought you were asking a really weird question to gross everyone out like many of the other Level I's.

Fooled ya!

That's a dopey question- there have been "wet nurses" for as long as there have been nursing babies. The bottom line is, provide the BEST nutrition for your baby, and if that means another woman's breast milk, then so be it...

Peace.
