I would first like to start out by saying I do not claim to be liberal or conservative. I just noticed everyone in here seems to be so concerned about everyone else’s political party. Now, I know this room is called politics but...why can't we just share our views and not get into arguments over ridiculous things ALL the time? Is it that big of a deal if someone doesn't agree with you? It seems to me conservatives have crap on the liberal party. And the liberals have just the same amount of crap on the conservatives. It might be lies it might be the truth…does anyone really know 100%? Don't you notice that if we don't all come to a common agreement to agree to disagree we won't get anywhere? It just seems to go round and round. I'm not trying to start an argument...but isn't that what America is supposed to be about freedom, especially freedom of speech? Is it that enjoyable to bicker back and forth? What is arguing doing for anyone? It isn’t stopping the war. It isn’t making anyone believe in the war. It isn’t making anyone love Bush or Clinton. Do we argue just for the sake of it? If you do believe it is getting us somewhere by arguing…why do you believe that?

You know what I think is funny? No one can say why they argue...maybe they are just too scared to admitt they are wrong and that what they are doing isn't solving problems...it's just creating them!

Too many people are locked into the mindset that anyone who disagrees with them must be the enemy.

They think that their point of view is the only valid one, and that not only does nobody who opposes them have anything to offer, but anyone who opposes them must be stupid and worthless.

It's really a rather sad delusion, from a psychiatric perspective. And it leads to hatred, because they seek to destroy all those who disagree with them, so nothing challenges their little fantasy world.

The problem is, this mental disease is not only contagious, but currently rampant in this country and others. It is not limited to any one particular party or religion or nation. Rather, it infects members of every group, causing them to scream and shout and froth at the mouth saying how bad their opponents are.

Some of them might be salvageable, if we take then out of their hate-filled infectious environment and get them to calm down long enough to be rational. But I'm more concerned with making sure this contagion doesn't spread any further.

Because we become what we focus on. And right now, too many countries and too many people are focused on hatred and violence and fear and terrorism. We need to change the focus.

We need to change the focus and get people to talk about solutions, not problems. Talk about goals, not obstacles. Talk about concepts, not enmity. We need to get people to be willing to allow someone to disagree with them, without it becoming an attack.

And we need to do it before any more of our leaders become infected by this madness and lead us farther down the road towards irredeemable hatred and violence.

Here's a question...if I want my boss to give me health care, do I debate her/him or do I get my co-workers to join me in action to force the boss to give it me health care.

Debate can clarify political positions, but the wealthy people who run society know one thing. They didn't get rich (and stay rich) by being convincing (good debaters). That's why the elite spend all that money on cops, prisons and the millitary.

Rodney King! Where have you been? And why did you change your name?

Seriously, Doll, I agree with you. All voices are needed, as are cool heads and open minds. (Too bad only liberals have them.) (Just kidding, just kidding) (sort of...)
