I think I'm finally going to get a Mac around the time that Leopard comes out, but is it really worth it to pay however much more. I can see that it has a lot of new features like Time Machine and iSight upgrades, but none of my friends have Macs, so the iSight really might not be worth it.

Leopard will have some new features, but it should be considered as mainly a refinement to Tiger. I don't anticipate anything ground shattering. Apple takes a bit of a different philosophy to operating systems: they prefer to release a new version frequently (about every year). You upgrade whenever you feel compelled to do so (usually about $100, so not the $400-500 for Windows) and you can safely and easily skip a version of the OS or two until there are features for which you want to upgrade.

That said, I'm looking forward to Leopard because every version of the OS thus far has been worthwhile -- good features and speed improvements.

I especially like how there is no gui in the standard osx for sharing folders outside of the home folder. Nice using pico to edit the smb.conf. I also like how mac fanatics say there is no gui because of the unix shell not the fault of osx. Oddly, there is a free utility which adds a gui to the os for sharing. I guess apple wasn't smart enough to write their own gui? Oh, well maybe they will put it in Leopard.
