He had so many songs, its hard to choose one favorite. I loved the King. I will never forget where I was when I heard he passed away. Yes, I choked up and tears came to my eyes, even though I was only 10 years old.
Here are some of my favorite hits of his:
Don't Be Cruel(1956)*
Hound Dog(1956)*
Love Me Tender(1956)*
All Shook Up(1957)*
Teddy Bear(1957)*
Hard Headed Woman(1958)*
A Big Hunk Of Love(1959)*
It's Now or Never(1960)*
Are You Lonesome tonight? (1960)*
Surrender (1961)*
Little Sister(1961)
Can't Help Falling in Love (1962)
She's Not You (1962)
Return To Sender (1962)
You're The Devil In Disquise (1963)
In the Ghetto (1969)
Suspicious Minds (1969)*

Fav song: Suspicious Minds. LOVE the back up vocals!!! Remember most: My Dad was a DJ "back in the day" (mid 50's), and HATED Elvis. Refused to play Elvis on air almost to the point of being fired.

Which one isn't?! It's probably a tie between Love Me Tender and The Thrill of You. Actually, the only two I never really cared for were the Hawaiian Wedding Song and the one about the dog Shep.
I remember seeing him on the Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday nights when I was young. I read all the fan mags that showed pictures of practically everything he did--army, marriage, stage shows, etc.
It always seems--and even now at my "advanced" age that he sang just to the person who was listening. You might be in a room filled with people--whether it was in concert or with a group of friends listening to records/radio, but you couldn't help but think he knew exactly how you felt at that moment--you needed someone to love you, to get over someone, whatever the song was about. And when you watched him--even on tv--those big, beautiful, soulful eyes just looked into your heart. I won't even go into what those hips could do to a girl!
A lot of spirit went out of him definitely when his mother died. He always wanted to sing gospel more than rock and I think he would have sung just for her. Unfortunately the Colonel didn't see that as a big moneymaker. Then when he got married, he changed even more--but that was also due to the times--the advent of the Beatles, etc. He always seemed sadder, somehow. I think that's what led to his huge weight gain and drug abuse. I guess when you can't find what you're looking for, you turn to what's available. His syncophants were certainly ready to supply him with whatever he wanted.
Sorry--didn't expect this to be nostalgia night, but thanks for giving me the memories.

My favorite Elvis Presley song is "love Me Tender".Elvis was a great entertainer but he had "problems" with the death of his twin that affected him all his life.He loved his mother deeply and he felt used by most of the people closest to him.He was also a charismatic actor.

"Merry Christmas, baby" ( I think that's the title)....it's the ol' stripper blues club/jazz version Elvis did in the late 60s or early 70s. He did scads of Christmas songs, but THAT one song is one I truly remember. It's the one where he describes Santa riding down Beall Street in his Pink Cadilliac.

Elvis was pretty big in my household when I was a young one. Hound Dog is probably at the top of the list for me.
