It is just a number trick. Ask him to do it again and write down all the steps. Then you can try to do it to someone else.

No, there are just some numbers that come more often to a human's mind. Some phycological thing.
I believe the most often thought of number is 47, it's just more mentally appealing for some reason, so people can often guess what number you're thinking of, if they tell you to think of a number, and have a decent chance of guessing correctly.
Or, are you telling us you told him your number and than he tells you to multiply, divide, etc.. it by itself in any order?
9 * 9 / 9 + 9 - 9 = 9
8 * 8 / 8 + 8 - 8 = 8
7 * 7 / 7 + 7 - 7 = 7
...

umm not its like the oldiest trick in the book i cant really remember how it goes but like every number that ur guess when you do all the mutaplacation its like 2 #s away from your number
