How long would it take for:
1) The troops in Iraq to storm across the border?
2) The National guard to secure every gas station and fuel depo?
3) The price of fuel to extend above $30-50/gallon?
4) The government to issue ration cards to every citizen?
5) The economy to crumble under the economic pressure (all commodities would rise severly)?

Additionally what are other threats to that situation? Is this situation out of the question? was this a good question?

I thought gas was that expensive already!
1) Mobilize to the border, 1-day several days before actual storm.
2) Within a week, we do get oil else where.
3) See above.
4) After the crisis was over.
5) Never, might get bad, but not crumble.

More deaths, more war, more abuse of the 1st amendment by those opposed to the war. The situation is not out of the question, and it was a good question.

Iran might want to have not something to achieve via that, yet oil prices might want to flow up. a much more beneficial in all probability difficulty is that Israel and or the U.S. attacks Iran's nuclear web content. In reaction Iran closes the strait of Hormuz. this may decrease off the oil bypass from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and reason oil prices to double a minimum of.

Well, only %10-%15 of the oil used in the US comes from the Middle East, so oil prices would go up but I doubt there would need for rationing etc. Gasoline costs about five bucks a gallon in some European countries and life goes on.

Iran would cut off the oil in reaction to #1, our troops streaming across the border. It would not just be Iranian oil that they cut off. They would cut off all oil from the Persian Gulf. Fuel prices would skyrocket. The economy would tank. Shiites in Iraq would probably attack our troops. Israel would come under missile attack, possibly with chemical weapons. There could be terrorist attacks from Hezbollah within the United States. China might decide to stop supporting our growing debt causing interest to jump and the dollar to fall.

Yeah. It would be bad.

There is a 6th possibility you didn't mention.....since Alaska, Texas, Illinois and Oklahoma are ALL oil rich states, our government would be forced to uncap the long un-used wells, why are they not being used now you may wonder, because in ALL these places there are animals and or insects that might be "disturbed" if we drill for our own natural resources! Google it if you don't believe me. America has enough of it's own oil and natural gas to run the country AT FAIR PRICES for 200 years or more, but the pansies in Washington prefer to bow to countries that are trying to literally kill us!!!!!!!

Iran can't cut off oil, because they would be in a shitload of trouble from the rest of the world, and once you stop selling something the oil companies would go out of business due to lack of profit.

The better question is what would happen if we stopped buying oil from Iran and developed our fields in AK and only bought from Mexico & Canada. Our percentage of oil from Iran is small, we would do more harm to them in the long run. It is time to start up our existing refineries, build new ones and start extracting sour crude from Alberta.

Do you mean cut off from us or the world? Most of Iran's oil goes to China. They might be the ones to take action.

I think it will take a while because I think they are looking in space for oil hence the mars trip and all of the other space operations, and who knows what they have found and are testing

perhaps in the more sissy places in the US, but in the south and midwest people will just drive less until the iranian economy collapses and we get cheap gas again. of course there wont be as much demand with the northeast and southern calfornia in total dissaray, so we'll get it cheaper. you city slickers just keep doing what youve been doing, just keep it in your cities.
