In the wild Land Hermit crabs can live to be 75 years old and older!

In captivity it is a wholenother ballgame.

If an owner does not know how to take care of it then like many have said here above, they will not last more then a few days, weeks months and in some cases a year or two.

BUT, if you know what you are doing, have researched, provided the correct habitat, waters and foods they can live to be 30 years and older in captivity. I know of a couple crabs that are 31 years old and are in captivity. I have several crabs that are 15 years old and have been with us that entire time. None of our crabs are less than 5 years old (5 years with us owning them) except for our newest rescues. We own 50 land hermit crabs currently.

So if you want to succeed then you must research and read about them, they are not as easy or low maintenance as some say but they are also not as delicate as people say. They are only delicate before during and right after molting. The problem is they need very very specific tank conditions and quality food and waters.

They can live a long time. I have two hermit crabs that have to be over five years old. They are as big as my palm and I have owned them for about a year.
I guessed their age because hermit crabs "hibernate" when they are growing/molting. They do it a couple times a year.
Yeah, hermit crabs can live a long time.

I have had Hermit Crabs for a couple of years, I got them down the shore. Did you know they make some strange noises to communicate?
