Like if someone is sitting across from you at a table, can you read the paper in front of them even though it is upside down to you?

Usually. Assuming I don't also have to compete with it being a long way away as well. I can even read sideways. I can't help doing it when I'm sitting across from someone ... and I've fouind out some interesting things at work that way.

Yes, it's an acquired skill.

Very important to learn what's happening when you walk into your boss' office, sit down with a customer, etc.
