it started a couple presidents ago, the foundation has been laid out, and then bill clinton changed our constitution so that we may torture others in other countries and from other countries and redefined torture, then george came along and gave us the patriot act which allows that all from other countries may be held indefinately ,no charges,no notification to family ,and torture or euphemisms for torture like waterboarding are permissible,we just have to label you a subversive terrorist and we are well within our rights to do whatever the hell we please, as human rights watch groups and the international community complains in vain but are powerless to stand up to the mightiest military force on the planet and the un acts as a cowardly pup lapping up any scraps of democracy we throw at it.

When the police raid a drug house, what's the first thing the dealers do? They destroy the evidence.

How does this scenario sound to you. A terrorist cell decides to execute a plan. They gather all the members in one place (say, an airport), complete with all their false passports, and wait to board the eight different planes, which might depart as much as seven hours later. Is that how you expected this to go down?

Here's how I see it. The first group heads out, complete with their fake passports, and tries to get onto the first of eight planes. If they succeed, they call a member of the second group, who may be at the airport, or on the way, to say they are on the plane. If the second group does not get the call, they abort, and warn off all the other groups. All groups destroy any evidence they can, or frame others, who may, in fact, turn out to be innocent.

Just my theory of the way the criminal mind might work.

This latest terrorist threat coming days after voters send Joe Lieberman packing for backing Dumbya is yet another instance of the only WMD ever used, The Media Weapon of Mass Distraction.

Why have not one single terrorist been charged and or tried since Bush's war began?

The legal system in Britain is different. They can hold people for a period of time - 30 days I think - while they gather evidence and decide what charges to file. If you think that's bad, try France - they hold terror suspects for up to 3 YEARS without charges, communication, or attorneys. Yes, the same French who put their nose in the air and lecture *US* about human rights!

Second, you may be getting fed disinformation from sources who are, shall we say, less than neutral about what image they want these suspects to have.

Under the 2006 Terrorism Act the maximum period someone suspected of terrorist activity can be held without charge is 28 days, subject to regular court approval.

ARRESTS OVER 'BOMB PLOT'
10 August: 24 people arrested in London, High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, and Birmingham
11 August: One released by police without charge
15 August: Another person arrested in Thames Valley area
16 August: Police given extra time to question suspects
17 August: Person held in Thames Valley area released without charge
21 August: Police have until this date to question two of the suspects arrested on 10 August
23 August: Police have until this date to question 21 of the suspects arrested on 10 August

The 23 in custody in London were arrested in raids in London, High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, and Birmingham last week.

The BBC's Jannat Jalil said: "This is an extensive and complex investigation.

"Police want more time not just for questioning, but evidence-gathering as they continue to search a number of locations."

It is believed up to 17 people are being held in Pakistan over the alleged plot - with two British nationals of Pakistani descent among them.

Pakistani officials said one of the Britons, Rashid Rauf, was believed to have links to al-Qaeda, but they released no details about the other Briton.

Mr Rauf is believed to have played a pivotal role in planning the operation, as well as being the go-between between al-Qaeda and the alleged plotters in Britain.

Detectives are searching for evidence at 22 separate locations across the country in an operation they expect to last for six weeks.

The BBC has learnt that officers have discovered "items of interest" during their search of a piece of woodland called King's Wood in High Wycombe

It is thought they were looking for explosive detonators about the size of cigarettes.
