Depends on how obese you are. If you are over 220lbs, its possible to lose 80lbs in 6 months. If you are under, very difficult.

A better goal would be to lose 40lbs in 6 months and another 40 in the following 6 months. Even 40lbs in 6 months can be challanging.

First would be to get moving, slowly. Go for walks with your baby, instead of driving. Take an aerobics class once a week, go out dancing with a friend every now and then to get out. As you do this, begin to eliminate things from what your eating, for example, cut out all soda on the weekdays. Then, cut your portion size down slightly, over time, so you don't notice it so much. Do both the exercise and the dietary changes over a few months, and when you feel comfortable, add a bit more of a regime to it. Make a plan to work out 3 times a week after you are completely comfortable with adding general activity to your life. Don't just start a crazy diet/excercise routine without trying to incorperate these things into your regular day-to-day life.

You should try to lose the 30 lbs first. You could probably do that by cutting out sugar, not the natural kind in fruit but the processed kind like in everything else. Coca cola, ketchup, candy, etc. Weigh yourself once a week at the same time and on the same day. Keep a record of your weight. Keep a food diary. Measure your inches too weekly. You will lose faster at first so don't become discouraged. If you have a sweet tooth eat some fruit. If you pig out start over the next day and set a goal to not allow yourself to do it again for a number of days. As you get smaller you will have more incentive not to pig out because you will not want to mess up your program. As you lose the first 30 lbs you need to gradually start some sort of easy exercise as often as you can, not something that will make you sore. When you reach you 30lb goal, celebrate, reward yourself. Get some smaller clothes. After that pick up the pace on the exercise. Eat lots of raw fruit and vegetables, lean meat. Cut out mayonaise, butter, and cut down on bread and pasta. Drink skim milk and eat nonfat yogurt. Eventually you will lose the other 50, it will depend on how many calories, how much fiber, and how much exercise you get. It is not reasonable to make you goal coincide with a certain amount of time, such as 6 months. Instead it would be better to focus on your new way of living and eating. Each person is different when it comes to time and losing weight. In my experience the faster I lose it the faster I gain it back. Also, in order to stay smaller you will have to continue to watch what you eat. Once you get to the weight you want, you can eat stuff that you were not eating, but you need to keep the calories the same and the exercise. If you splurge, remember to exercise more than usual. Otherwise, the weight will creep back. You can to it. One day at a time!!!

Congrats on the baby!
Try jogging. Start off slow and gradually start running. Try moving your arms when you jog or run that way your whole body is going. Always stretch before you start.
Try eating more fruits and veggies. Drink plenty of water. No more fast food. Bake more than frying and make light soups like veggie soup with potato's and add some chopped chicken.
Good Luck and all the best!

RUNNING!!(and a diet) I know that eighty pounds seems like alot, and it is, but my grandma lost 78 lbs. by going on a diet that had no flour and no sugar in any of their meals. I know it seems drastic, but it works!!! And never underestimate the power of running. Running is the best thing that you can do for your body. you burn fat calories after the first 17 minutes of running, and you burn 100 calories every ten minutes. It also helps your respiratory system, cleans out your pores, keeps your body toned, and toughens up muscles, and even just having muscles and not using them burns calories. So if you want results, cut off the flour and sugar, stay between 900 and 1200 calories a day, and run as often as you can. IT WORKS!

It ain't gonna be easy. Weight (fat) doesn't just fall off on it's on. You'll have to eat less and excercise more. And don't even try to lose it in six months. You'll just gain it back. You have to do it slowly to make it stick. Be prepared, it could take a long time to lose 80 lbs and keep it off.

Cutting your portion size, a well balanced diet, and regular exercise should do it. But, if you are still having problems gaining weight, you might have your doctor check your thyroid levels. Sometimes, after having children our thyroids become underactive. You may need medicine to boost your thyroid hormone. Your thyroid controls your metabolism among other things.
