just try to make yourself open to meeting new people, so they get to see who you really are, and not who they think you are

Not sure I have the One Great Answer, but here goes. I think this is good advice.
1) Keep your circle of friends open, and allow some Muslims to come into it. Don't take it on as a "project" to "go make some Muslim friends". Don't try to convert them to Jesus. Just let it be the case that you greet them with an open mind. They're not all terrorists. Not even MOST of them.
2) Muslims, understand that you bear a responsibility for being an example. Now, more than ever, live as the kind of neighbor you want others to see you as. Now is not the time to retire to the mosque and hope the world understands you. It doesn't, and all it's getting is bad news.
3) Fight prejudice where you see it, in both Muslim and Christian communities. There's a lot on both sides.
Give it time. Extremists have a short fuse and burn out fast. Unfortunately, most moderates of ALL stripes don't ever stand up and let their voices be heard.
For more information about ways you can help, check out the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), or talk to your pastor about how to love your enemies, turn the other cheek, and do all those other Christ-like things that aren't so popular these days.
Peace, and I sincerely hope this helps.

The only way to do that is by education. I believe to totally curb it would be an impossible task, can only just minimise. After 9/11 muslims have been given the label "terrorists"... just as up to today, Germans are labeled "nazis" when people are angry, or Blacks are labeled "nig--rs". Very very horrible labels
The first thing that probably needs to be done, is for Poltical/Sectarian leaders to stop propogating violence, criticism and aggression as a cure. If the head is direspectful, critical and vengeful how would the body function. Sometimes the head FORGETS that the heart is the one organ the body cannot do without, and the Heart of any nation, any faith and any race is the people. Even in ourselves the head and heart dont always tally.
Since we are all unable to change others, especially leaders... the best we can all do is start with our surroundings. We should start NOT negatively contributing to bigotry discussions. What i means is like Coffee Shop politics where a group of people meet at a coffee shop ( or Starbucks in today's world ) and start bringing up all the most negative aspects of the "current" world news.... this induces more hate and despair in everyone. If the cells are corrupted, sooner or later it will spread like cancer and kill the body.
Whether Islam is a peaceful religion or not, many will debate... but so what if we can prove that it is or it is not? Are devotees of all "Peaceful" religions peace loving? Kind? Caring?...No
But do ALL people or ALL faiths and ALL walks of life want Peace and Happiness for their Family and Friends?....YES!
I guess we should start looking at Muslims not just as a Group of People with a Label Muslim, but as individuals who the same as us want to be happy, and hopefully help others to see that too.
Discrimination of Gender, Race, Religion and even Sexuality will always be present, to make this world a better place, we should with our domain and our own little gardens and hope that will inspire others to do the same. Irregardless of what Gender, Race, Religion or Sexual Preference a person have...because if they are filled with Cruelty, Arrogance, Hate and Violence, whether they are Christians, Muslims or Buddhists, it really won't make any difference.
In the end we are all neither Muslims, Christians nor Buddhists, we are just people looking for happiness where we can, just a pocket of our people are mislead and misguided.

Do you know that Islam actually a religion of peace and condemn ANY bad behaviours including terrorism, commit suicide and etc..
If they kill others with no reasons, Islam will not regard them as a Muslim. They are just a human no religion even they claim themselves as a Muslim. They just want to make bad image for Islam. They think they do the right thing but actually not.
If they kill others in order to PROTECT their nation and country, likewise other people will do it too, it's different from above. Get it?
So, actually please stop discrimination against Muslim. I mean religion but you could discriminate those people. Get it?
Means No discrimination to religion. People ok. Don't look at their religion.
Now, mosques open to all non-muslim who wanna know more about Islam. The staff there will explain and answer all your questions. So good luck!

In general I don't think there is much discrimination against a particular group but general discrimination to all groups of people. It will always exist cos too many people believe in the news and press which highlights the minority but present it as a majority feeling. For example, the majority of Israelis and Lebanese are on good friendly terms, just the minority which are creating the war. Another example, the catholics and protestants in Ireland are cohabiting, just the minority of these people are fighting so the news present this fact and not the other (which makes boring news).

I am not a religious man but ...let us pray, and stop preying. I have spent more time than I'd liked in SWA (South West Asia) and inherently met some fine folks, I know this because they were not shooting at me. This goes along way when you've been there UNINVITED. There is so much good in people, even in the smallest, most minute gesture. I don't regret all the chaos i participated in by order of our...that Texan. I do however realize now more so than ever that just like me people just want a small space to live, be important ,and most of all be important to someone else. So unfortunately I cannot answer your question, but I leave you with this. In all of our hearts there is a "better place" and more often than not, lately we all have had to hide in it, take comfort in who surrounds you, and take care of them, because that's the best anyone can do. The world has turned ugly and there is no relief in sight. and let us all not prey.

The moderate Muslim community needs to take a more proactive approach to the problem. Right now, the majority just bury their heads and want it to go away. Moderate Muslims need to become outraged with the hijacking of their religion. Of course most Muslims aren't like the terrorists, but we don't hear that much condemnation about it.

I'm pro-people and everything isn't about race to me in general. If other minorities have been discriminated against by small minded people for hundreds of years, why would you think those same small minded people would stop for Muslims? No pun intended. You just pick your battles wisely at this point in life.

Those who posted before me are right...just coontinue to meet people...You cant do anything about everyone, just everyone around you.
Every day another buss bomb stikes...everytime another tape renouncing the infidels and demanding the death of all who are not muslim....It gets harder to get rid of these notions. Not enough muslims are speaking against what thier bretherin are doing. This scares people. I speak out against all the stupid things RAZA and MEChA say on a regular basis...this helps those I know see that there are those of use who opose their ideology.

I think right now with the situation in the world a lot of people are wary of anyone that is a Muslim moderate or not. Usually if a person is open minded they will withold no judge people on their beliefs or what they look like but on what type of person he or she is.
