MY daughters son ran up a 900 dollar long distance phone bill be for he left to go to his dads. Now my understanding that if you pay the portion marked by a * next to the local portion the phone company can't turn off your phone if you are a disabled household.. The phone is on life line and is needed for medicial emergencys. Although they can stop the long distance service they can't cut off the 800 numbers.... Is this correct... note this is a low income household and there is no intent to not pay off the long distance bill over time............... This is a small town phone company with an 8 mi radius around town.

If you call your phone company and tell them the circumstances they might knock off that bill. Just tell them the whole story and that you didnt make the calls and are on fixed income.
