"Love" is a word that gets thrown around rather loosely these days. If a guy says he loves you, maybe he loves you and maybe he doesn't love you. "Love" is an easy word to say, but it is far more difficult to demonstrate love in a tangible manner. If he loves you, he will do more than just talk about it, he will "walk the walk" and not just "talk the talk"
Its certainly ok for you to ask him what he means by "love". See what he has to say, but don't be fooled by slick words. Tell him that you have high expectations of the man who loves you. How does he respond when you say that? Does he sounds understanding? Does he sound irritated? Does he make excuses?
When a guy tells you that he loves you, it can mean a few different things. Sometimes its worthwhile taking a step back and having a conversation about "love" and see what he has to say. Why not suggest he read "what we talk about when we talk about love", a short story by Raymond Carver. You might find that it provides a good conversation starter on the topic of love!

It depends on how long you have known him. If he says it after a few days or a week, run he only wants one thing. If he is someone you are close to and care about, and have known for a lng time then he's a keeper.
