The episode features a koala bear wearing a mask, and laughing evilly. Other people are imprisoned on the island, where they are constantly drugged; gas suddenly spouts from seemingly ordinary objects without warning. In cheesy James Bond style, all the imprisoned people wear numbers and are referred to by their numbers. While they cannot leave, they are not treated poorly, sipping martinis by pool, etc. Most of them sport British accents. I believe the original movie or movies are from the 1970's or so.

This is kind of driving me nuts, since I'd like to watch the original movie or movies, since they seem amusing...

It's the British TV series "The Prisoner". The Simpsons episode was titled "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes". The white trimmed black clothing that Homer wore was what the eponymous hero, The Prisoner, No. 6 wore.

Essentially, the government (maybe) kidnapped people who knew too much for their own good, and though did not kill them (usually), did sequester them in an odd village, called "The Village". Each week a new boss (always called No.2) would scheme and conspire to find out why No. 6 quit his government job (probably as a spy, though this is not certain). Life in The Village was quiet, and not at all bad, really, but there was no freedom to be had. This No.6 did not like, and he always strove mightily to escape, sometimes seeming as though he had, but the powers that be always had a way to yank him back.

The show had so many themes, and though it sounds like it might be a dry philosophy-fest, it was a good action series. The spy stuff served as a sugar coating to make the thinking go down in the most delightful way.

Watch out for Rover.

Be seeing you.

It's The Prisoner. Trust me you aren't missing anything. That had to be the worst show I have ever seen in my life! The people couldn't leave the island because there were these huge beach balls that would chase them down and knock them over. Why'd you have to bring up this repressed memory. "I am number 2 , you are Number 7,who is Number 5?"

There was a Brit TV show where the hero would try to escape and be trapped by a rolling globe. Can't recall the name, but it was as you describe.
