Waiting until night is a good time to do it. But I would spray them with a fire extinguisher and before they could get out of the foam I would trap them in a very large trash bag and seal it.

We just had a huge (about 1' tall and 8" wide) bald-faced hornet nest by our kitchen window. We waited until it was dark, then soaked it with Raid hornet spray (from Wal-Mart). Nothing moved. We let it sit for 2 days and saw no movement, so I went out this morning and took most of it down, but saw 2 hornets still alive (out of more than 100) and the larvae moving around...so we'll have to spray one more time...or just be brave and knock it down.

Get a hose with a good spray nozzel, and wash them off. A reasonably narrow mist will soak all their wings, and they'll fall to the ground like dead leaves... can't get up again for several minutes, which is long enough to stomp them. A good tight stream can usually get the nest down... and clean the window. All natural, two chores in one!
Of course, if water is a major cost in your area, bug spray might be better. If there's a screen in the window, you can usually get most of the wasps by shooting through the screen in total safety. A lot of automotive sprays can also work, like carb cleaner, and brake cleaner and such, but there's no telling what they'll do to the paint.

Cover all exposed skin and spray lots of hornet spray at the nest until the hornets die. Then knock the nest down before any surviving hornets return.

In the window? hhuumm. buy one of those cans of wasp and hornet killer sprays. My husband said they are always in there nest at night so that is the time to spray the nest so that you kill them all at one time. These cans are designed so that you can stand far back and spray.

The other 2 answers are right, but wait until just after the sun goes down. Then all the wasps will be at the nest.

Hornets or wasps? If you have any 409 cleaner it works as well as wasp & hornet spray, just not as far... Late in the day or very early in the morning...wish you luck..
