There were and are many tribes. While we know some of the nations such as Navaho, Iroquoi and the like. Many American Native nations were known by different names by the 'white man'. Wikipedia has a category devoted to Native American tribes.

Oh, man, I think there are about 500 of them. (There was a TV series about the history of Native Americans called 500 Tribes.) If you really want the answer, contact the Bureau of Indian Affairs. They probably have a list.

thats like asking someone to name all 3rd world countries on earth - its possible, but you would have to ask someone who studies that stuff - like a professor
