The MSF all the way.

I have read stats that suggest that the least accident prone riders are those that took the MSF class, followed by those that taught themselves, and last was those that learned from another rider. I cant find the article to give you the exact stats but, the idea was that most riders have bad habits and learning from someone who isn't a professional instructor will cause you to pick up their bad habits. (Also, you are going to develop your own bad habits on top of this)

The MSF is well worth the money - if it save you from one accident then it has already paid for itself. Because in 1 accident you will have to pay for a co payment on your bike to get it repaired, a copayment at the hospital, lost wages while injured, new gear, and so on. And that is assuming that you don't kill yourself

I bought the MSF guide from the these guys a while ago and I kicked butt in my class. The tips are worth the money alone

Take an MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) beginner course, runs about $200. Also buy a book called Proficient Motorcycling and study it. Runs $25, but found it at Amazon for $17.

Statistically, those who take an MSF (or other controlled rider training) course have only a 50% chance of crashing their first year. Those that are "self taught" or taught by a friend have about an 80% chance of crashing. Money or otherwise, ask yourself how much you're willing to pay.

Take a MOST class in your area or a Motorcycle safety foundation class. There are to many unsafe riders an the road already and it would be in the interest of all riders that you learn from experienced pros and take a safety class and get your liscence so the rest of us do not have to ride around with crash test dummies such as yourself that give the motorcycle industry and riders alike a bad rap

Just take the course and get a license as well while learning.
