You sweat, right?
Sweat provides a good way for copper to oxidize; it's kind of like how water can cause iron to rust. Oxidization is a chemical reaction wherein a chemical is combined with oxygen. It happens when you burn things, and it happens when metal rusts...amongst other things.
This can be easily fixed. Just coat the inside of the ring with transparent nailpolish...that should stop that black stuff from forming, since it will prevent the metal in the ring from coming in contact with your skin.

The copper is oxidizing and the residue is rubbing off on your skin.
Why the heck do you have a copper wedding band? It'll disintegrate within about 5 years.

If you look closely it would be green not black. Its because of oxidation. Either you get wet too much or you sweat too much. Usually after marriage we put on weigth so the ring becomes tighther and causes the moisture to get trapped between the skin and the ring. make sure you wash it during bath time everyday.

Your copper is reacting with your bodily precipitation (such as sweat) also reacting with moisture in the air to form this black mark.

You can clean it by putting it in a bowl of vinegar and the next day rubbing the rest off.

Salt, Vinegar, and Flour. Dissolve 1 teaspoon salt in 1 cup white vinegar. Add enough flour to make a paste. Apply the paste to copper and let sit for 15 minutes to 1 hour. Rinse with clean warm water, and polish dry.
Lemon and Salt or Baking Soda. Make a paste of lemon juice and salt, and rub with a soft cloth, rinse with water, and dry. Or use a slice of lemon sprinkled with baking soda. Rub copper with the lemon slice and rinse with water and dry. Vinegar and Salt. Pour vinegar over the surface Sprinkle salt over the acid and rub in the mixture. Rinse with warm water and polish dry.
Lemon Juice and Cream of Tartar. Make a paste of lemon juice and cream of tartar. Apply, leave on for 5 minutes, and then wash in warm water. Dry with a soft cloth.
Tarnished Copper: Polish with a commercial polish for copper following directions on the container. Polish can be made at home by moistening salt with vinegar or lemon juice to make a paste for a bright finish or a paste of rotten-stone and olive oil for a dull finish. After polishing decorative items, spray with lacquer to preserve color if desired.

Get it plated with nickel or platinum - actually any platinum group metal such as Rhodium will do. You want an inert metal if it is next to your skin a long time. Cancer is nothing you want to mess with and chronic skin irritation is one of the ways you get skin cancer.
I favor Platinum or Rhodium.
