Films impact society it does not change all of society.
But you get impressionable kids and adults who will watch a movie and want to act out what they see and sometimes it is not a bad thing if you want to portray a person of substance but if not we as a society are put in danger.

They can to some degree. There are films that make people more aware of an issue. There are films that sublty influence the viewer with messages. Then there are the amazingly romantic films with great costumes for the actors, and people will try to copy the outfits (or even sometimes the quotes) in an attempt to create that kind of thing in their own lives. There are the incredibly funny comedies that may also inspire imitation. How many quotes from comedies do we keep hearing for years and years..
Even the mystery or adventure or other film may inspire copying by other film-makers, which can change the whole landscape as far as the selection of movies out there from which to choose.
I believe they can also change society in a negative way because some things shown in movies can have a detrimental effect on people who are immature.
All things considered - yes, films can change society and have changed it.

All things we see, from the time we are born to the time we die, are the things which form our memories, experiences, and even our views. The "westernization" and historically persuasive influence our cinema has had with the world is well-documented, and arguably may be one of the most powerful exports our nation has (with respect to influencing others) in both good and not-so-good ways. So can films totally change society? Maybe not. But have they influenced all of us? Definitely.

I for one have seen that films can have an effect on people both children and adults.
When violence is glorified and killings seen over and over such as in movies like Scarface, Blood In Blood Out, Blow, Con-Air, Fatal Attraction etc.
We become what doctors call immune to another pain and suffering. It's worse when the young suburb children watch gangsta films, because they have no concept of death. They see the death of a brother put on a pedestal and think how great it would be to go out in a hail of bullets and glory.
The thing that the movies can not transmit is the pain as the bullets rip through your body, nor the feeling of being detached as you lie on the pavement wondering if you'll make it or die.
If your going to survive the pain of recovery or if your not the thoughts; Is Heaven real? Is Hell real? Where am I going?
On screen the dying or tough :) but in real life they cry :( and their last words! MOMMA !!! JESUS!!! HELP ME PLEEzza......

One film can't change a whole society at once. But it can have an influence on individual minds.
