Is your cousin a boy or a girl?
Anyway, how about Thomas the Tank Engine for a boy. Or some kind of kid's video, like Clifford the Big Red Dog, or Blue's Clues - that would work for either one.

Hire a professional clown at their party. Help plan the party, 4 yr. old boy may have seen the movie cars, get him something about that Car Movie or if his is in to Bob the Builder, that is great too. Buy him a magic trick. Buy her a Continental Airline Flight Attendant Barbie
Good luck and take your camera

How I Became a Pirate
by Melinda Long Illustrated by David Shannon
Totally charming book esp. since pirates arg'h all the rage right now. Inexpensive in paperback and under $15 in hardcover. For an extra-special treat read it to him/her. The pictures are fantastically graphic and hilarious. The story is detailed enough to hold their attention yet simple enough for them to understand.
I humbly recommend this with the hearty force of over 72 3-7 year olds, to whom I read it to this very morning.

Well,if it is for a girl, then a doll would be suitable or a dish set,for a boy something like an action figure or basketball but a ball can be bought for either sex.

ask you aunt/unclw what the child's favorite store is and get a gift card - children love to pick out their own toys and also will be proud to pay for their stuff
