how does it make you feel when you are pressured to make a decision concerning a stressful situation without being given time to research and think the issues through?

Who would expect a decision from you without giving you a chance to develop some intelligence on the issue? I have never had that situation professionally. I would tell the person that I need time to gather sufficient info to be able to make an informed decision, not a flip of the coin response.

I understand that you would feel terrible, but the solution is in your hands.

Just tell the other person firmly but nicely, that you will take time to decide and will let them know. Then walk away. If they bring up the matter again, say I thought I told you I shall let you know, did you not hear me? Refuse to discuss it any further..

Bear in mind that people will treat you the way you let them treat you. So be confident and assertive but polite.
