Nobody wants to suffer and movie stars and glamourous rich people make it seem like being rich is the greatest thing in the world. Nobody sees the misery that they experience in their big old empty houses, with their drugged out neurotic children, and alcoholic, disconnected parents. Stop watching so much TV and you won't be influenced by the illusion of glamour.

well, you can say that people want happiness and all that. but i suppose it's because some people feel the need to belong or fit in, even if it means not being themselves anymore, which is stupid, so they spend loads of bux on nonsensical stuff. sure, that gives people happiness, doesn't last long though.

but then again, we live in a society that's judgemental, and where being unique MAY be a crime. if a person looks different, thinks different, or is being different...there's a really huge possibility for a person to be called weird. and who wants to be called weird?

Its to fit the human need for significance.

that is why some ppl buy flashy cars ( who cant afford them)
its so they can be seen as a "someone"

we all have this need just different ways of achieving it!

Look out how Osama Bin Laden did/does as an example

Some get significance BY helping ( MotherTheresa)

The media promotes glitter and glamour and Holywood. Role models for kids are now rap stars that play up their rags-to -riches stories and focus solely on their material possessions. Also, people are jaded now a days...so much is available to them that even when they have the latest and greatest gadget, they are not happy.

Popular culture, especially TV and movies, try to indoctrinate us into believing that what you own, where you live and what you drive are what really matters in life, and some people fall for it.
