Check zoning for *agriculture*.
And pigs do NOT stink if properly maintained/stocked.
Look at your facilities available. Look at what you want to do. Show pigs? Direct marketing? Selling at market price (keep in mind this is dictated by mega farms)? Raise a few for your own use?
If you want to raise your own pigs buy feeder pigs from someone else...you can raise 4 in a 16X32' pen. They NEED shelter - a clean pool of shaded water if it's in a hot area...pigs don't sweat so can die of heat stroke *very* easily.
If you want to direct market and have the pasture room look at some of the rare breeds - the Hereford or Tamworth or Gloucester Old Spot - breeds that were developed to raise pigs on pasture, not confinement lots.
Don't overlook Berkshires - good solid pigs.
If you're looking at selling in the market place you need to go with popularity - Durocs, Hampshires or Yorkshire mostly or crosses of those. You'll also need the commercial set up they require.
Best bet - two bred sows and an unrelated baby boar. Evaluate the baby pigs the sows have - keep the gilts (females); if there's an OUTSTANDING registered pig in the boys keep him...otherwise all the boys get snipped and once weaned they become feeder pigs to raise for meat. Once cut they're called barrows (neutered males).
Might be basic info for you - but the fastest way to get a place going is buying a couple good bred females. You have them and any females they have - and an unrelated boar. In about 6 months you'll have some nice gilts to breed to the boar...and you can breed him to the mama sows.

first buy a dozen seamonkeys.if you can keep them alive for a week, then you're ready to be pig farmer.here are the steps when you're trained and ready to be a farmer:
1.buy a slab of ham and contact the company on the label where pigs are being marketed from.
2.make an appointment with the ham distributor to tour the factory.
3.ask the tour guide which farm the pigs are being raised before being slaughtered for bacon.
4.take a trip to the pig farm and request to purchase pigs for wholesale prices.
5.when that deal is done, have them shipped to you via train.
6.buy farmland and breed more piglets there.
7.raise the piglets to be plump and re-sell them to other people interested in starting a pig farm:)

Get a lot of land. Make a giant ( long wise) hole of mud and dirt. Line it with fencing. Get a container for your pigs to eat in. Buy a Female male and Baby pig. And feed.

Research zoning laws if you're allowed to.
Get some money.
Build the farm, buy the equipment and food.
Get the pigs.
Buy clothespins for your nose because pig farms really, really stink.

So i say back merely go away them on my own.
