one of my all time favorites was Tim Allen's book, Dont Stand Too Close to a Naked Man.

he really put himself out there, talked about what happened in his life to cause his sense of humor, his time as a drug dealer, going to jail, and getting cleaned up. it was a great read, and even though it was dealing with serious issues, it was full of laughs. check it out.

A Riot of Our Own: Night & Day with The Clash by Johnny Green, the band's road manager during their early days is a great peek behind the scenes of a crazy time

Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain is a rollicking account of punk debauchery

Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly by Anthony Bourdain is one of the juiciest memoirs I've ever read. The author is a celebrity chef who tells all sorts of sordid tales about his life in the food service industry. Quite the page-turner!

Mickey Rooney's impressed me; I remember him talking at an awards show saying by 20, he owned a fortune, but by 40, he was broke; I was pretty impressed by his book.

Ricky Bragg's stories about his mother(All Over but the Shouting) and maternal grandfather(Ava's Man) are very good southern bios;

Brother Ray by Ray Charles was pretty impressive; i always like to read how someone overcomes an obstacle to be a success;

The Delany Sisters, "Having Our Say" to me, is one of the absolute best autobiographies out there. I read it when it first came out in 1993, and it still remains one of my favorites.

Dreams of My Father from Illinois Senator Barack Obama is another as well; very impressive.

"A Piece of Cake" by California lawyer Cupcake Brown is a great cautionary tale for all the young and old as well;

I'm Just a DJ...but it makes sense to me" by Tom Joyner is very good you can tell how he feels so passionately about the things he do care about. very interesting and readable book.

"Life is Not a Fairy Tale" by Fantasia is a favorite of mine.
"Confessions of Video Vixen" by Karrine Stephens(and I know some of ya'll will hate) is also a good cautionary tale as well as Fantasia's.
"Life is So Good" by the late George Dawson is great; he's just an ordinary man who lived a full life, but learned to read fully at age 98; he died a few years back, but his book is worth it;
"Seventh Child" by Freddie Mae Baxter is very good; she was from S.C. and moved to NY, just a regular sister telling her story;
"The Autobiography of Malcolm X" is a great one as well.
"Dear Senator" by Strom Thurmond's 81 year old daughter Essie Mae Washington Williams is quite insightful.
"Success Never Smelled So Sweet" by Lisa Price, the owner of Carol's Daughter is also a good read and have recipes for making your own oils and such.
ALL of Maya Angelou's biographies, are priceless.
I am sorry for the long list but I kept coming across books I liked and had to put them in;
