If it is just the password to your main account you can boot into safemode by tapping f8 as the computer is coming up. Then actually log into the real admin account. By default most people leave the password blank. If it really is you admin account download this file, unzip it and burn it to a cd. It is a bootable cd and will let you change the password.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The only way to reset your windows password 100% safe is to use a software called Reset Password Pro.
The software allows you to create a boot-disk, that can be made on a CD/DVD or USB stick. The boot-disk can then be inserted into any locked machine, and it's a simple case of pressing reset. Here is their official site: http://www.resetwindowspass.com

boot to a DSL CD. mount the hard drive, usually as /dev/hda1. find the password file, empty it out or delete it. Reboot to XP it should ask for a first time password like it does when you first boot after install.

2 steps to be followed
1) If the drive in which ur windowsXP is present contains any sensitive data then attach it to ur frnds system and copy them into it and just format the drive in which ur WindowXP operating syatem is present.
2)never use any hack tools for this simple procedure which takes a matter of 30 minutes to format a drive and reinstall ur OS

is there another administrator account on ur computer, if there is let that user log on and change ur password for u.
did u create a password reset disk if u did use it
