This works with or without a garbage disposal:
If you have a garbage disposal run it with water on.
If the black rubberized part that fits in the drain can be removed remove it & let it soak in hot soapy water to break up the slime build-up which is probably the cause of any bad odors. Scrub with a small cleaning brush or old toothbrush. Use baking soda (arm & hammer or generic brand) as cleaner. Also scrub around the sides of the drain neck with Baking soda to remove any build-up. Rinse with hot water. Place the black rubberized drain cover into it's original position.
Then pour about a cup or so of baking soda down the drain. Then pour about a cup of vinegar. This will react & bubble up & foam. Let it stand for about 15 minutes. Return to rinse sink with cold water. Do the same with the regular drain. Do this anytime the smell returns.

Remember to NEVER mix amonia & bleach with any other cleaning products. Stick with bakind soda it cleans great & is a natural cleanser.
Happy cleaning!

You dont say if you live in a house or apartment, sewer or septic tank, these things may help to know what to do to solve your problem. If you are in an apartment which is attached to a sewer system, you may be getting blowback from a clogged line or a problem down the line somewhere, If you have a septic tank, its flora and fauna may be upset, in which case you should start buying rid-x and follow its directions, to sweeten things up a bit. check the water trap under the sink and make sure water is flowing through it well, and that there isbnt something plugging it up. Sewers can get a little nasty in the summertime, especialy in older homes. also a non efficient septic tank could be filling up, and may need to be pumped out, do any of the other drains smell bad?

if you have a garbage disposal I would put a lemon down it and turn it on, it will make everything smell better. If not plug the sink and fill it up with warm water and add a few cups of white distilled vinegar and let it sit in there for at least overnight. Good luck!

Dump a whole box of baking soda down the drain and then follow that with a bottle of apple cider vinegar. This will stop the smell and clean the drain too. The acid in the vinegar will react to the baking soda.

Pour a few cans of coke down the drain and let it soak for a few hours. Then try a whole box of baking soda, then bleach it out. Lastly you can use a lemon, grind it up completely and let it soak down the drain. If you have a garbage disposal, just have it grind up a lemon.
