I think the biggest reason is because it takes away the focus of the Iraq war and the state of foreign affairs. This also helps to solidify the conservative base for political reasons. This is one reason congress has a very low approval rating, lowest on record. As illegal immigration is, indeed an issue, there are more pressing issues to contend with. Health care, war, the economy and joblessness.

You may not be an immigrant, but unless you are 100% native american, then your parents or grand parents or their parents are immigrants. This country was built by immigrants. Don't believe me, go to New York. Also, ther are no, truly, american names, they are all derived from derivitives of other countries. Search the origin of your own last name and your mothers maiden name. You may be in for a shock.

I am torn on this issue. I understand why Mac would be mad because he has went through the hassle of making sure his wife is legal. From what he says it sounds like its a pain in the *** process. But for some reason I don't hate on anyone who is trying to hustle up a living. Sometimes society often picks on a certain gender, race, or ethnicity, so sometimes you have to do what you have to do. These bullsh*t politicians are always focusing on illegal immigrants to try to stir the pot for the lower class citizens in this country. We should be addressing the fact that its the few rich in this country that make it hard for the lower class. So many times I hear people complain that illegal immigrants are taking all the jobs from people, but what kind of jobs are they taking? And who is hiring them????? It is not the illegal immigrants fault. Agriculture would cost alot more money if we had white Americans picking fruit. Besides, who really wants to pick fruit anyways? Some guy posted something that the LA Times had, but I think those numbers are quite low compared to the total illegal immigrant population in LA. So as I stated in the begining I am torn on this issue.

Are you kidding? People are damned tired of illegal immigrants who do not have any interest whatsoever in becoming an American. Nothing irritates me more than than the introduction to an auto answering system: "Please press 1 for English" Or the monitor on an ATM machine, "Press 1 for English" or bi-lingual signs in places like Lowe's Home Improvement Outlets - after all, isn't this America and isn't the English language at least part of the glue that helps make this country a melting pot of numerous nationalities and religions and colors? If I were to immigrate to France, or Germany, or Italy, or whatever - I would EXPECT to learn their language and I would not be so arrogant as to DEMAND that they conform to my language and customs. And, no, I am not against immigration or any ethnic group - I just really don't want to see America fragmented.

People are making a fuss because there are way to many in this country. I live in N.C. and they are taking are jobs and renting everything. In are schools the mexicans out numbering are own children 3 to 1 and that is wrong. There are more mexicans living and working here then there are americans we can't get jobs because they can pay the mexicans less money and get more work out of them. They live a dozen to one house and draw benifits which cut down on the americans that need help. How many homeless mexicans have you seen? None because they get all the help.

I think we need to see it both ways. Remember alot of our immigrants, whenever that might have been. They needed a new place to live in order to escape certain misfortunes. Now, think of a stranger walking into your house without your permission. You can see that there are two notions at battle here. But to answer your question, the second example is what people get upset about and rightfully so, but there is also legitimacy in understanding the aliens' need to enter a new place, even if it happens to be illegal.

My beef is this "WHY PICK ON MEXICANS"! Well I wonder why they are not picking on "all Illegals" this nation is a melting pot. There are far "TOO MANY OTHERS IN THIS COUNTRY THAT ARE ILLEGAL BESIDES MEXICANS" In fact they are often victims to crime ect.. because they try to lay low (dont call police) so they will not be deported and the criminals or evil people that take advantage of them know this ! If you are going to Harrass the mexicans do it to all not just them Huh I would love for the racest minutemen to try to harrass blacks ... oh no they wont mess with them because Blacks stand up for thier rights! ..being in the apartment bus. I never had problems with my mexican residents at all they all paid rent on time kept a spotless home and clean children and shower them with love and affection thier credit is flawless. These poor people just want a chance at life like everybody else they are very honest hard workers too. Even the Good Lord stated to be kind to the illegals so that he may bless our nation. What we out to be worried about is the hatered we are haboring against them by this ugliness. And no I am not a MEXICAN !!

Civil partnerships are legal, but you don't get to call it a Marriage...or get a Marriage license...and they don't officially refer to your "husband or wife" but to "Your Partner" I'm not gay but I see that as inherently insulting and pandering to the religious right, which erroneously claims some kind of moral hegemony over Marriage...both the word and the institution it seems. How can we possibly say marriage is a religious rite? It is the most secular of institutions. You can wander into any chapel you can find and get someone to mumble incantations over you, but it is not a valid marriage until the govt has seen the birth certificates and signed off on the license. You don't get tax deductions because you had a Mass...you get them because the govt recognises you as an economic unit. Why should gay people settle for the second class kind of partnership which the government will deign to recognise? For with this distinction they still wish to express their disapproval of gay love and gay lifestyles as being just "not quite the done thing"....and thus they lumber gay citizens with such an insulting secondary classification for their lifelong commitment ceremony.

THEY DON'T PAY TAXES, SO ALL OF US HAVE TO PAY MORE. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they did then the tax burden on the rest of us could be less, or the deficit might start to go down.
