until they are 3 months old I would go with one of the more expensive diapers I reccomend pampers swaddlers they are great! In the begining they have explosive poops because they push so hard, you may have heard the expression pooping up the back, this happens often and you want a good diaper (they will literally have poop up to their neck!) After this phase is over I usually switch over to luvs or the store brand Good luck Parenthood is a wonderful Kourney With many rewards! Also just a tip, get diaper wipes for sesative skin it will help him not get diaper rash and only wipe him when he has a bowel movement their urine is not acidic enough to need a wipe at this age the diaper wipe is actually more harsh on their skin! This will help with rash

PAMPERS!! I have 3 kids and have been through three brands of diapers. I started with Huggies. The huggies always seem to leak and when the diaper got wet the inside of the diaper would fall apart. The diapers were sized smaller than other brands. The tabs didn't stretch real well and I always seemed to tear them off. The Luvs were not that bad. I had some times where my children would wet on me outside of the diaper and leave their diaper dry. If the diaper gets wet it starts to sag inbetween their legs. This is after an 1 after being wet.
I like pampers the best. The tabs on the diapers are stretchier than the rest. There is two different leak guards on the diaper. They work also. I have never had a leaking pamper diaper! The diaper gets wet and it doesn't come apart. The diapers do not sag and the diapers allow for big babies. My daughter has chunky baby legs and pampers is the only diaper that I have seen that doesn't cut into her legs. They are big enough to allow for all of her babyness. The other advantage to pampers is everytime you buy a bag there are coupons inside for your next purchase and at pampers.com you can redeem your pamper points off of the bag of diapers if you decide to keep them.
I think diapers is mostly trial and error and from where I am from the price on the three brands mentioned above are about the same. There is maybe 2$ difference between the bags. You may have to try out diapers and see what you like. Good luck and Congratulations!

No question about it - Pampers Pampers Pampers!! They are a bit more expensive but they are totally worth it!!
Pampers Swaddlers for Size 1 and 2 followed by Pampers Cruisers for sizes 3 - 6. There leakage protection is unmatched. They are wonderfully stretchy and move with the child, as well as fitting the unique contours of different babies. My best friend and I have both found diaper rash to be a very rare occurence and leaks to be non-existent. Plus, we always have more coupons then we could ever possibly use, so that helps with the cost.
Congratulations on your new little one by the way!! You are going to love motherhood. It's the most amazing and important thing you will ever do.

Little Tykes makes great (and cheap!) diapers, and I like Huggies, and many of the store brands are good. I don't like Luvs. They leaked all over the place. I don't think the Huggies Supreme is really worth the little extra cost.
Don't get too many packages of Newborn size diapers, just in case your baby won't be in them for long. I got several as shower gifts, and only used about 4 or 5 packs of them, and gave away 3 unopened ones.

Cloth, cloth, cloth.
I have to wear diapers 24 / 7 and I've used disposables and cloth. I think every parent should have to wear disposable diapers for a week then cloth diapers for a week, just so they know what they feel like. Disposables are hot and sticky even when dry, they don't allow any air flow. They cause diaper rashes more often than cloth. They are uncomfortable, especially in the summer.
Cloth is softer against the skin, they allow air flow over the skin, the don't cause the rashes as much, they are just so much more comfortable. Sure you have to wash them, but two loads of laundry a week isn't so much to ask for the comfort of your baby.
The other advantages is you aren't dumping all that plastic, paper and human waste into our already overloaded landfills and you aren't putting that plastic, paper and chemicals against your baby's skin. Who knows what they put in those things.
Seriously consider cloth. Which is more important, your baby's health or your convenience?

HUGGIES. They are the best . They last the whole night even on toddlers and they don't leak. And if you buy cheep diapers then you will end up using more as they don't last that long. Huggies worked for me but I think you will have to try out a couple brands, then go for what suits your baby the best. As you can see from all the answeres it depends from baby to baby.

Pampers Baby Dry! My daughter sleeps 12 - 13 hours at night and it's the only diaper that keeps her dry for that long! They are one of the more expensive diapers though. You get what you pay for. Cheap diapers equals leaks and diaper rashes!

We tried Pampers, Huggies Supreme, and Huggies Baby-Shaped on our 3 months old daughter. We finally picked Pampers because from our experience, Pampers leaks less and Pampers has an extra liner on the top for better absorb. Good luck!

We use Costco own 'Kirkland " brand. they work as well as pampers or huggies. Unfortunately thay only start at size 3. Before this i was using Huggies as i can buy in bulk at Costco (i am a big fan of this store!) To begin with when my daughter was first born, i used the pampers swaddlers as these fit really well and didn't interfere with the umbilical cord. Good luck with your baby.

My first choice was Luvs, they seemed to work as well as the other name brands.Second choice was Pampers, third was Huggies but they seemed to be sized smaller than the other brands.Never had much succes with off brands.Don't buy too many newborn sizes ahead of time,if you have a big baby you may end up exchanging them for the next size.Have fun!
