When the professor constantly repeats a student's name in its lecture, what is his problem?

There is about 20 students in the class, but one name is mentioned in every class meeting.

If it's a cute girl, she shouldn't stand so close to him. If he's getting old, maybe she or he is the only student whose name he recalls. If you've had an exam, maybe this students is the one who got an A plus. No way to tell a priori. Just ignore it.

Yeah, I would think that your situation was weird too. Typically, if student names are used in discussion at all, the teacher will mix it up a bit, and use a variety of students. If you think he/she is being a pervert or very out of line, like saying weird or odd things about the student, then maybe you should tell someone. Otherwise, I think it is something that you should probably just put up with, or try to switch classes.

Perhaps the absent-minded professor only has room in his/her over-educated cranium to store one name ! Maybe he/she only thinks one of you is worth talking about ! Or maybe it's just the old 'teacher's pet' syndrome . Why don't the rest of you wear great big name tags one day and see what the reaction is?

Maybe the professor does that because he sees someone that looks like they're not paying attention so he's trying to bring them back to consciousness :)

depends:

if he's using the name for scenarios, i wouldn't think anything of it

using it for positive connotations - probably admires the student

using it for negative connotations - wants to embarrass the student haha

either his favorite (teacher's pet) or his peeve (his most hated)... either way, it's embarrassing to the student who's name is often mentioned. and it's envious to the class itself. what is important is that you pass his subject and then never to have him/her as your professor again.... ciao....
