I had the opportunity to test drive one a while ago when I was shopping for a new car. It was out of my price range but I took one for a spin anyway which was a big mistake as I fell in love with it.

The M45's closest competitors are the Lexus GS430 and the BMW 5 series. It's hard to go wrong with the 5-series as it probably has the best handling characteristics of the three - I'm not too hot on the interior. Of course there's the BMW image - which you certainly $pay$ for. The GS430 is a fine car but it leans towards the luxury sedan side as the M45 leans toward the sports sedan side. From what I've read, the GS430's computer tends to be a "nanny" when you try to push it to it's limits.

The M45 sport model I test drove had exhilerating power and handling, showing the characteristics of a smaller car. It felt very tight in the corners and had crisp handling. The technology features were very impressive although the lane departure warning system was a bit annoying. Luckily you can turn it off. The rear view camera had guide lines to help you back up which was handy.

Some people love the interior design some hate it. I thought it was classy, especially with the matte finished rosewood. I feel it gives the interior the look of fine furniture.

Personally, if I had to choose from the three, I'd go with the M45. There are significantly fewer on the road than either the Lexus or BMW and it's less expensive than the BMW. If you prefer luxury over sport then go with the GS430.
