Oh without a doubt. Just in different categories. 9/11 was done by man while Katrina was a natural disaster-the most devastating of its kind in US history. There will never be a day when the aftermath of Katrina doesn't affect our lives. It will take years to rebuild that entire area. That is something that will never leave our hearts or minds just like 9/11.

Hurricane Katrina was a big natural disaster indeed. But 9/11 is not the work of Mother Nature. It was done by other human beings. It is so devasting as how can we can inflict such horrors to ourselves. It is an act of pure hatred and intolerance. It will be remembered because of this and will be indeed more significant.

Yes, it is. Some may think that a natural disaster has less impact on our society than an attack by outsiders, because it was not done by a person that we can seek, and destroy.
As on 9/11, I saw awful images on my tv screen. The destruction, all those desperate people clinging to their lives for way too many days before help finally arrived. I never have heard exactly how many people died that horrible day. Does anyone know? Are they afraid to tell us? Have they stopped searching?
We in the Midwest, worked very hard to manufacture homes for those who lost everything. Thousands of those homes still sit unused. Many people have commented that those people were ungrateful because they refused to live in what was provided. After seeing these mobile housing units roll out every day for weeks, I can understand exactly why they were refused. They were so depressing looking, very small, (maybe 10'x 20',not 16'x80') maybe three windows total, not sure if there was AC. A very sad day indeed. I will never forget either day.

the fact that people in the US suffered so badly in the after math of the Katrina at the hands of the people and government will well out weigh the devastation of 9/11

Lot's of people died in both one in each and every of those issues. i imagine 9/11 became the worst. typhoon Katrina became undesirable too because a majority of those were trapped in there homes without nutrition and yea there bodies were floating round and rotting. I also do not forget that youngsters coundn't flow back to there colleges for a lengthy time period, like 3 months. I felt particularly sorry for both between the failings and for the people.

It's significant, definitely. But no where near on the same scale as 9/11. Unless the weather/mother nature is Muslim now too.

Significance is a matter of perception. From my point of view the 9.11 event was more dramatic and on live TV. Katrina was bigger and more devastating to property. I bet the guy whose sister died in her attic because she couldn't get out and had to go there because there was inadequate transportation to enable to evacuate her would think Katrina was a big deal.

As far as bringing racial issues to the forefront yes...but it will not be remembered on such a large scale as 9/11 will be. But it will still be significant.
