Yes, it was..although this was years ago..it also struck the tree outside the house and caused a huge chunk of wood (about 4 feet by 1 foot) to embed through the wall into the living room. As I recall, it short-circuited everything in the house, blew out the panel, and forced us to buy a new dryer. The plug-in clock never worked right after that, either.

Yes, a long time ago when I lived in an apartment. It fried the answering machine. We didn't have a computer back then. The TV was okay.
Oh, yeah, a few years ago I was sitting at my old computer and it started storming. I was about to turn off the computer, when BANG!!! It hit by the garage, which was maybe 15 feet from where I was sitting. The computer was okay, but I was scared! I saw a char mark, but the pouring rain must have put out any smouldering.

As an electronics repair technician, I have serviced numerous pieces of electronic equipment that have seen the effects of a lightning strike. Sometimes it's just a simple repair (power supply, fused resister, regulator) and other times the set is destroyed beyond any practical repair cost (burned print, extensive component damage) Usually, several units will come from the same household.

I lost a TV. It was a nice one, too. I live in a grounded building now, I don't have to worry about it.
