hahaha...red necks can be most anywhere..it is a state of mind...rascist mosogenist and bogots...they are rude and think women are objects for them to toy with and wait on them..and anyone that is different than them they hate. most are illiterate but not all. hillbillies are mountain country folks. some that stay on the mountain and resist change and have a querky sense of humor and simple in life and ways. kinda pioneers and would rather be by themselves...now sometime hillbillies and rednecks intermingle and you get wirdness in a big way! neither really like laws or rules per se. and then you have white trash..inbred ignorant folks. just the bottle dwellers. and all of the above can be found north south east and west.
not all southern people are rednecks...you have intricate layers...genteel southern aristicrats, country-hard working farmers, red necks-hate filled bigots, hillbillies-simple country, and country- honest hard working people that prefer the solitude and quiet of dark clear skies at night...not all people from the south are slope browed troglodytes!

In movies, TV shows, stand-up comedy and recent books, there seems to be no difference at all. All of the above also portray white trash the same as a hillbilly and a redneck.

Most all are poor, many live in old trailers, some have extremely large families, many have no money for medical or dental care, quite a few are ignorant and uneducated.

Okay I am from the Arkansas Oklahoma border. here is what I see as the difference.
The hillbillies are the country fried hill people, barefoot, uneducated and dirty. they are often behind the times and can't speak one sentence properly. They rarely have more than a radio and could careless about television. they think their cousin is the cutest guy in town. They would rather swim in the pond outback and make out in the barn, all without taking a shower.

The rednecks are similar yes because they are country folks, but not because of their circumstances, often because they choose to be. They listen to the latest country, truck driver, beer drinking music, while they chew their tobacco and judge all the other races as beneath them. (often bigots)they are a little more educated but only to the extent of what they want to know...IE: Fixing a pickup truck or racing cars or the latest stats on the Nascar circuit. The men often go shirtless and the woman skimpy tanks or tight jeans. They love Walmart; they love tattoos. They are dirty but because they have just changed the oil on the tractor.

I wouldn't think very much. I now of some guys I refer to as good old boys, they are the type of guy that will stop and help you if you have a flat or something. Like a educated redneck, but not a redneck. Lives in same areas, hard working and dress nice. Country boys.
